Reconstruction is routinely offered to patients and can be autologous and/or implant based. One area of growing interest in autologous fat grafting (AFG). Our group recently published a systematic review and meta-analysis of this topic which showed 51 different outcomes were being utilized in the published literature, with substantial heterogeneity in their definitions. A Delphi consensus exercise amongst key stakeholders will be conducted using the long list of 51 outcomes generated through our previous work. We will first group these according to the six domains previously identified; oncological, clinical, aesthetic and functional, patient-reported, process and radiological. Through sequential rounds of voting, the long list of outcomes will be narrowed down using predefined rules of agreement. No patients will be involved in this study and ethical approval is not required. The research will be published in a peer-r...

A participant observational study collected data, in May and June 2014, by means of checklists from 37 purposively selected midwives working in the labour and postnatal wards of two central hospitals in Zimbabwe. Descriptive statistics and SPSS version 20 were used during data analysis. The results indicate lack of resources necessary for good midwifery practice and poor standards of infection control among midwives. Strengthening infection control policies and practices, ensuring resource equitable distribution and training of midwives in peripartum sepsis prevention are essential interventions.

In low-income settings, stillbirth may be associated with maternal perception of reduced fetal movements. However, little is known about maternal experiences of reduced fetal movements and subsequent engagement with health services in low-income settings. This narrative literature review initially aimed to improve understanding of views and experiences of reduced fetal movements in pregnant women in low-income settings using information synthesised from international studies. However, only a small number of articles from low-resource settings were found. Methods The literature reviewed qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method studies guided by a systematic approach. The findings were discussed narratively. Results A total of 40 studies were identified, only four of which were from low-income settings. The four main themes identified were: maternal perception of fetal movement...

Early detection of breast cancer can be achieved through Breast Self Examination (BSE), which is a self care technique that women can learn and perform. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between knowledge and adherence to BSE in the prevention of breast cancer. The Health Belief Model was used to guide the study. A descriptive correlational design was used. The study population comprised of pregnant women aged 18-40 years in a Central Hospital Antenatal Clinic. The sample size for the study had 80 subjects. Systematic random sampling was used to select study subjects. Data was collected using a structured interview questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze characteristics of the sample demographics, independent and dependent variables. Inferential and correlational statistics were used to analyze data. Pearson correlation...

In midwifery, these notes can then be used as a data source for reflective assessment. Aims: To reflect on the experiences and challenges recorded by participant researchers during data collection for an observational study of midwives' practices on prevention of peripartum sepsis. Methods: As per the theory of participant observation, three novice research midwives joined a group of midwives being used as a sample for the observational study. These participant researchers kept reflective diaries in order to self-assess conscious responses to the environments in which data was collected. Their responses were subjected to content analysis, and five themes identified. Findings: This study demonstrated that a reflective diary can be used as a tool in research to form a basis for self-development to improve practice. Conclusions: Reflection promoted critical ...

However, understanding of risk factors for stillbirth in these settings is incomplete, hampering efforts to develop effective strategies to prevent deaths. Methods A cross-sectional study of eligible women on the postnatal ward at Mpilo Hospital, Zimbabwe was undertaken between 01/08/2018 and 31/03/2019 (n = 1779). Data were collected from birth records for maternal characteristics, obstetric and past medical history, antenatal care and pregnancy outcome. A directed acyclic graph was constructed with multivariable logistic regression performed to fit the corresponding model specification to data comprising singleton pregnancies, excluding neonatal deaths (n = 1734), using multiple imputation for missing data. Where possible, findings were validated against all women with births recorded in the hospital birth register (n = 1847). Results Risk factors for stillbirth included: previous s...
