One of the factors often overlooked regarding the implementation of EHRs, is the role of individual health care professionals and the effects produced by their interactions with the EHR as they perform their job duties throughout the day. Using a Theory of Organization-EHR Affordance Actualization as a guiding framework, the focus of this dissertation is to examine the factors that influence how physicians use the EHR at the individual-level during clinical interactions by analyzing physician perceptions of their interaction with the EHR while providing patient care in the exam room and how it influences their work process. A mixed methods approach was used to identify the affordances, EHR features, fact...

We analyzed messages produced in response to hypothetical organizational change scenarios. The message production task was implemented within a 2×2 experimental design (N = 1,205) fielded at three different organizations. We included multiple replications for each manipulation, and multilevel structural equation modeling allowed for analysis across scenario replications. Results indicated that perceptions of change and context do influence message design mediated by intensity of beliefs about a change. The study extends message design logics theory and contributes to a conceptualization of stakeholder interaction during organizational change as a problem of communication design.

College students perceptions are particularly important to look at as their living situations can vary drastically from the general public, i.e. living far away from home and with roommates. This study looks at college students perceptions of quarantine and social distancing measures that could be implemented in the event of an outbreak of pandemic influenza. The data revealed that undergraduate college students in this study favored the use of government implemented quarantine and social distancing methods, except for requiring that religious services be temporarily canceled. They are also worried about the potential problems that may occu...
