The parameters defining the control rules are optimally tuned resorting to different evolutionary algorithms, based on the expected operating conditions. The performance of the resulting management heuristics is compared with conventional approaches to optimal scheduling, including Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) optimization, direct evolutionary scheduling optimization, and traditional non-trained heuristics. Results show how the trained heuristics achieve a performance very close to the global optimum found by the MILP solution, outperforming the other methods, and providing a single-layer commitment and dispatch algorithm which is easily deployable in the microgrid controller.

Solution-processed polymer organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) doped with triplet-triplet annih... more Solution-processed polymer organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) doped with triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA)-upconversion molecules, including 9,10-diphenylanthracene, perylene, rubrene and TIPS-pentacene, are reported. The fraction of triplet-generated electroluminescence approaches the theoretical limit. Record-high efficiencies in solution-processed OLEDs based on these materials are achieved. Unprecedented solid-state TTA-upconversion quantum yield of 23% (TTA-upconversion reaction efficiency of 70%) at electrical excitation well below one-sun equivalent is observed.

However, the solubility of PCDTBT is limited, which decreases polymer yield and makes synthesis and purification tedious. Here, we introduce a strategy to increase both solubility and luminescence by the statistical incorporation of additional hexyl side chains at the TBT unit (hex-TBT). An increasing amount of hex-TBT as comonomer from 0 to 100% enhances solubility, leads to backbone torsion, and causes a blue-shift in the absorption and emission spectra. While photovoltaic performance of both PCDTBT:P3HT blends and PCDTBT:PC$_{71}$BM blends decreases with increasing content of hex-TBT due to weaker and blue-shifted absorption, the luminescence properties can be systematically improved. Both photo- and electroluminescence (P...
