Fifteen young men (age=22.1±6 years) underwent 30 min of HIT (2 min of walking at 50% of reserve heart rate (HR) alternated with 1 min of running at 80% of reserve HR) and CME sessions (30 min of jogging/running at 60% of reserve HR) in random order (2-5 days between sessions). IOP was measured before (baseline), immediately after (post--exercise), 5 min after (Rec5) and 10 min after (Rec10) each exercise session. IOP was reduced post-exercise and remained reduced at Rec5 during both HIT and CME session, with no significant difference between interventions (~16% between 23%). However, IOP remained reduced at Rec10 only after HIT intervention (~19%), whereas IOP at Rec10 returned to levels similar to the observed at baseline during CME intervention. In summary, both HIT and CME equally reduced IOP immediately and 5 min after exercise session. However, only HIT was able to remain IOP reduced 10 min after exercise. These results suggest that HIT may be more effective than CME for reducing IOP in young healthy men.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, when women referred to the Urogynecology Clinic between January and March 2008 answered to an interview. results: Most patients included in the study had low schooling level and complained of frequent urinary loss in great quantity. As for the expected type of treatment, the patients were almost equally divided into three treatment types: drug therapy, physiotherapy, and surgery. Concerning their perception of and satisfaction with the received medical care, it was observed that all questions were answered by patients, most of them felt comfortable and safe during their appointment with the physician, and felt that their problem would be solved at the healthcare facility. conclusions: There is a discrepancy between the patient’s idea of therapy and the treatment that is actu...

These factors together promote a range of skin abnormalities, as reflected by varying degrees of injuries and cancers in areas exposed to sunlight, as well as ocular and neurological disorders. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of disease in Jundiai, and genetically determined clinical type of lesion in affected patients. The study lasted for one year and was developed based on the characteristics and clinical manifestations of disease, dividing the patients into groups with the same manifestations and degeneration presented. Thus, it was possible to establish a possible mutation occurred in the region and see what are the clinical features presented by its clinical evolut ion. Returned four patients diagnosed with xeroderma pigmentosum in the region, and there was one death during the study. Due to the evolut...

Eight healthy individuals were evaluated during three sessions of resistance exercise on bench press with volume and intensity of 3 sets of 15 repetitions with 60% 1 RM. The interval time between sets was 60 seconds and moderate speed, according to the following positions: P1) bench press performed in straight position (0°); P2) bench press performed in inclined position (45°); P3) bench press performed in the declined position (-30°). The intraocular pressure was determined by using a Perkins’ tonometer in three distinct moments, as follows: M1) immediately before the exercise; M2) immediately after of the third repetition; M3) three minutes after the end of the third repetition. Statistical analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and it ANOVA was also used with Bonferroni post-test adopting a signific...

This study aimed to isolate and identify Candida spp. from the environment, health practitioners,... more This study aimed to isolate and identify Candida spp. from the environment, health practitioners, and patients with the presumptive diagnosis of candidiasis in the Pediatric Unit at the Universitary Hospital of the Jundiaí Medical College, to verify the production of enzymes regarded as virulence factors, and to determine how susceptible the isolated samples from patients with candidiasis are to antifungal agents. Between March and November of 2008 a total of 283 samples were taken randomly from the environment and from the hands of health staff, and samples of all the suspected cases of Candida spp. hospital-acquired infection were collected and selected by the Infection Control Committee. The material was processed and the yeast genus Candida was isolated and identified by physiological, microscopic, and macroscopic attributes. The incidence of Candida spp. in the environment and employees was 19.2%. The most frequent species were C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis among the worker...
