All this vehicles need a traction motor and a power converter to drive the traction motor. The requirements for the power converters include high peak power, optimum consumption of energy, low output harmonics and inexpensive circuit. One of the promising technologies that can be made to meet these requirements is Multilevel Inverters (MLI). This paper discusses the three types MLI namely of diode clamped, cascaded H-bridge, and reduced switch multilevel inverters (MLI). This paper focuses on evaluation of harmonics and power losses in the above inverter topologies. Based on the simulation results obtained it is found that Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of MLI is less compared to H-Bridge inverter where as power loss in H-Bridge inverter is less compared to MLI.

The present study involves the harmonics analysis of an open end winding Induction Motor drive, using level PWM technique. The proposed multilevel inverter arrangement produces hexagonal voltage space vector structure in lower modulation region and a 12-sided polygonal space vector structure in the higher modulation region. The stator winding of the motor is fed from both ends with an asymmetric DC link voltage having ratio 1:0.366. This method eliminates 5 th &7 th order harmonics from the phase voltage and current. Other advantage is higher linear modulation range.FFT analysis is proposed on the scheme to verify the reduction in harmonics in the output wave form.

This paper presents the design and development of 5-Degree of Freedom (DOF) robotic arm which is used for feeding the elderly or specially challenged people, where the position of the joints are controlled by the user. Using principles of robotic Kinematics and MATLAB, the robotic arm is controlled. The alogrithms are verified using stick diagram. A Graphical user Interface is developed for controlling the actuators which in turn controls each joint of the robotic arm. Arduino MEGA2560 I/O board is the main heart of this project which interface with the Graphical User Interface, motors and sensors. A mimic of the developed robotic arm is designed in MATLAB and it is simulated using forward and inverse transformation to check the accuracy of the algorithm.

The technique uses a single dc power supply to feed all the gate drives of an inverter. This type of implementation reduces the total cost of implementation of seven-level MLI and size of driver circuits. Another important feature of this proposed MLI is that the number of conducting switches remains the same during each level. This topology can be extended to a higher number of levels. A laboratory prototype has been developed consisting of single phase seven level MLI with constant number of conducting switches with gate drives and power MOSFETs with three voltage source of 12 V each giving 72 V peak to peak output. The proposed MLI can be used for higher voltage levels by using bootstrap diodes with higher voltage capacity.

The proposed security system has been developed to prevent robbery in highly secure areas like home environment with lesser power consumption and more reliable standalone security device for both Intruder detection and for door security. The door access control is implemented by using face recognition and finger print technology, which grants access to only authorized people to enter that area. The face recognition and detection process is implemented by principal component analysis (PCA) approach and instead of using sensor devices intruder detection is achieved by performing image processing on captured video frames of data, and calculating the difference between the previously captured frame with the running frames in terms of pixels in the captured frames. This is the stand alone security device has been developed by using Raspberry Pi electronic development board and finger print , operated on Battery power supply, wireless internet connectivity by using USB modem. Auto Police e-Complaint registration has been achieved by sending security breach alert mails to the nearby police station e-mail id. This proposed is more effective, reliable, and this system consumes very less data and power compared to the other existing systems.

Assuming negligible losses in the converter, this is equivalent to maximizing the power output of the solar panel as in traditional MPPT. A low power(10 W) prototype has been built with a buck-boost converter to charge a lead acid battery (12 V, 7AH), with an Arduino microcontroller to control the duty ratio. The method can be scaled up easily to control even Kilo Watts of power.

Three types of CMC techniques have been discussed, namely current hysteresis control (CHC), constant frequency control (CFC) and average current mode control (ACMC). The performance of the grid tie inverter in the event of grid voltage failure is also studied to help install an anti-islanding mechanism. The proposed control techniques shall eliminate the use of Phase locked loop (PLL) control as the current reference is generated from the grid voltage itself. All three current mode control techniques of an inverter have been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate the performance of the designed inverter. The simulated results show a current THD of less than 5% in all three methods and a good anti-islanding response.

Research paper thumbnail of Eighteen-sided polygonal voltage space-vector-based PWM control for an induction motor drive

IET Electric Power Applications, 2008

An inverter scheme with 18-sided polygonal voltage space-vector structure is proposed for inducti... more An inverter scheme with 18-sided polygonal voltage space-vector structure is proposed for induction motor drive applications. An open-end winding configuration is used for the drive scheme. The motor is fed from one end with a conventional two-level inverter and from the other end with a three-level inverter, realised by cascading two conventional two-level inverters. The inverters are fed with asymmetrical DC-link voltages. A simple linear PWM control scheme up to 18-step mode is proposed, based only on the motor reference phase amplitudes. The proposed scheme gives an increased modulation range with the elimination of the 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th-order harmonics, for the entire modulation range, when compared with any conventional schemes. The absence of low-order harmonics gives nearly sinusoidal currents throughout the modulation range, and makes PWM control of voltage very simple, with low inverter switching frequencies, especially in the extreme modulation range.
