The aim of this study was to determine the nutritional value of Lipizzaner mare’s milk for possible human consumption and identity the influence of the parity and stage of lactation on its fatty acid (FA) composition. This study was conducted on 17 Lipizzaner mares from a state stud farm in the Slavonian region (eastern Croatia). Mares were hand-milked twice during lactation in the fourth and sixth months. Significantly higher contents of MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids) and PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and lower ratios of n-6/n-3 were found in the fourth month of lactation. This parity significantly affected the PUFA/SFA ratio (polyunsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids), with lower values found in older mares. The fatty acid composition of mare’s milk that is especially high in UFAs (unsaturated fatty acids) is considered to be beneficial for consumers.

Pronasli smo specificna mjesta u kontrolnim reg...

In hemolymph samples activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and paraoxonase 1 (PON 1), as well as hemolymph cholesterol, triacylglycerol and non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentrations were determined. The hemolymph of M. squinado showed the highest levels of SOD activity, cholesterol and triacylglycerol and the lowest levels of PON 1 activity compared to values determined in the hemolymph of E. verrucosa and P. elephas. Gender differences were determined only in M. squinado samples. Males had significantly higher activity of PON 1 and lower NEFA values compared to females. M. squinado hemolymph lipid metabolism and oxidation stability in intermoult period could be attributed t...

Fatty acids (FAs) in FF are present in esterifed form as triacylglycerol (TAG), cholesterol esters and phospholipids (PHL), and as nonesterifed FAs (NEFAs). The aim of the study was to determine the lipid composition of bovine FF during folliculogenesis. Bovine ovaries were collected at a slaughterhouse, and follicular fluid samples were obtained from follicles of three different sizes ( 5 mm N=22 ; and >10 mm N=23). Concentrations of TAG, PHL, total cholesterol (TC), low- density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL- C), high- density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL- C), NEFA and FAs in FF were analysed. The saturated fatty acids were dominant in bovine FF and the most common was myristic acid (C14:0). Polyunsaturated fatty acids were the second most represented, with linoleic acid (C18:2) in the highest percentage....
