Alternatively, electrocatalytic oxygen reduction possesses numerous notable advantages (e.g., cost-effectiveness, small-scale, and distributed nature). As electrocatalytic oxygen reduction has been widely investigated in the fields of fuel cells and metal-air batteries, the mechanism of the 2e−-ORR pathway for producing H2O2 is not sufficiently clear. Herein, we explore the effect of the cobalt (Co) coordination environment on the electrochemical production of H2O2. The detailed investigation on N-, P-, and S-coordinated Co catalysts (Co1N1N3, Co1P1N3, and Co1S1N3) demonstrates that changing the coordination environment evidently affects the H2O2 selectivity, and the S-coordinated Co exhibits the best catalytic performance. This finding would lead to the design and selection of catalysts at atomic level for producing H2O2 via electrocatalytic oxygen reduction.

Research paper thumbnail of Measurement of the cosmic ray proton spectrum from 40 GeV to 100 TeV with the DAMPE satellite

Science Advances, 2019

The precise measurement of the spectrum of protons, the most abundant component of the cosmic rad... more The precise measurement of the spectrum of protons, the most abundant component of the cosmic radiation, is necessary to understand the source and acceleration of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. This work reports the measurement of the cosmic ray proton fluxes with kinetic energies from 40 GeV to 100 TeV, with 2 1/2 years of data recorded by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE). This is the first time that an experiment directly measures the cosmic ray protons up to ~100 TeV with high statistics. The measured spectrum confirms the spectral hardening at ~300 GeV found by previous experiments and reveals a softening at ~13.6 TeV, with the spectral index changing from ~2.60 to ~2.85. Our result suggests the existence of a new spectral feature of cosmic rays at energies lower than the so-called knee and sheds new light on the origin of Galactic cosmic rays.

Military Medicine, 1997

This paper provides an overview of the TripIer Army Medical Center LEAN Program for the treatment... more This paper provides an overview of the TripIer Army Medical Center LEAN Program for the treatment of obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and essential hypertension. The LEAN Program, a multidisciplinary prevention program, emphasizes healthy Lifestyles, Exercise and Emotions, Attitudes, and Nutrition for active duty service members. The treatment model offers a medically healthy, emotionally safe, and reasonable, low-intensity exercise program to facilitate weight loss. We will discuss the philosophy behind the LEAN Program and the major components. Thereafter, we will briefly discuss the preliminary results.

Research paper thumbnail of Glycylcyclines bind to the high-affinity tetracycline ribosomal binding site and evade Tet(M)- and Tet(O)-mediated ribosomal protection

Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1996

N,N-dimethylglycylamido (DMG) derivatives of 6-demethyl-6-deoxytetracycline and doxycycline bind ... more N,N-dimethylglycylamido (DMG) derivatives of 6-demethyl-6-deoxytetracycline and doxycycline bind 5-fold more effectively than tetracycline to the tetracycline high-affinity binding site on the Escherichia coli 70S ribosome, which correlates with a 10-fold increase in potency for inhibition of E. coli cell-free translation. The potencies of DMG-doxycycline and DMG-6-demethyl-6-deoxytetracycline were unaffected by the ribosomal tetracycline resistance factors Tet(M) and Tet(O) in cell-free translation assays and whole-cell bioassays with a conditional Tet(M)-producing E. coli strain.

Research paper thumbnail of Biallelic Mutations in PDE10A Lead to Loss of Striatal PDE10A and a Hyperkinetic Movement Disorder with Onset in Infancy

American journal of human genetics, Jan 7, 2016

Phosphodiesterase 10A (PDE10A) is enriched in the striatum, and animal data suggest that it is a key regulator of this circuitry. Here, we report on germline PDE10A mutations in eight individuals from two families affected by a hyperkinetic movement disorder due to homozygous mutations c.320A>G (p.Tyr107Cys) and c.346G>C (p.Ala116Pro). Both mutations lead to a reduction in PDE10A levels in recombinant cellular systems, and critically, positron-emission-tomography (PET) studies with a specific PDE10A ligand confirmed that the p.Tyr107Cys variant also reduced striatal PDE10A levels in one of the affected individuals. A knock-in mouse model carrying the homologous p.Tyr97Cys variant had decreased striatal PDE10A and also displayed motor abnormalities. Striatal preparations from this animal had an impaired capacity to degrade cyclic adenosine ...
