The presented devices based on well-known optical gyroscope configuration is optimized for detection of other special physical quantities. Generally it is a rotational seismometer designed for calibration of the other electromechanical types of such devices, as well as a new sensor for detection of rotational seismic events. The detection of absolute rotation by the system is advantageous in comparison to the other rotational seismometers, which calculate rotational events in indirect ways.

The air-related value of damping is researched. All the considerations are based on the assumption that the particular mount does not produce damping. Furthermore, they are true only for the researched range of the variability of the beam's geometry and the resultant resonance frequencies. Two applied methods of modelling produce results, which differ by one order of magnitude, but both of them are sufficiently small to be regarded as negligible.

SAW stress sensors (SAW-SSs) measure the stress existing on the surface of piezoelectric base, measuring the delay of the SAW signal. The stress in SAW-SS is caused by the measured stress in elements of constructions. In this paper the modified SAW-SS is considered. The modified SAW-SSs are bound to the linear or surface elements of constructions indirectly, on supports. This new system diminishes influence of the casings and temperature at the results of measurements. The modified and previously proposed SAW-SSs may be used to measure the stress in bent elements of the construction and may also be applied to the measurement of bending instability of rods in truss or lattice constructions. The monitoring and warning systems signalling overstress or bending instability may be built ...

The rotation caused by seismic events is measured by a system of two antiparallel pendulum seismometers (TAPS). Theoretical analysis of TAPS system is presented taking into account the fact that seismometers are not identi-cal. The improvement is attained due to modelling of electro-mechanical phe-nomena in the seismometers and smoothing by spline approximation method.

SAW stress sensors (SAW-SSs) measure the stress existing on their surface measuring the delay of the SAW signal. The stress in SAW-SS is caused by the measured stress in elements of constructions. The idea of SAW delay lines is described in [1] for example. The information about acting stress is in intermediate frequency of two SAW-SSs working in the SAW generator [3]. This system diminishes influence of the temperature at the measurements. The relatively small intermediate frequency (about 100 kHz) may be easily transmitted at the relatively long distances (about some hundreds m) by concentric cables. SAW-SSs are bound to the linear or surface elements of constructions: beams, frames, plates or shells. Bending moments change the curvature of these elements. The changing curvature of these eleme...

ABSTRACT The optimization of fiber-optic Sagnac interferometer as a sensor for the investigation ... more ABSTRACT The optimization of fiber-optic Sagnac interferometer as a sensor for the investigation of seismic rotational waves is presented in this paper. The main parameter of this optimization is maximum system sensitivity for absolute rotation in the limited range of expected velocities. The main system construction bases on the FOG minimum configuration, however the detection by system only rotational velocity without covering it on angle changes needs other approach to this system. The presented in paper theoretical and experimental investigation shows that such system can be made on base of a standard single-mode optical fiber, however needs operation on depolarized light.

In this paper a new its application as a sensor of the state of polarization (SOP) changes is presented. The optical part of system is based on minimum gyro configuration, however a high level polarizer is replaced by specialized polarization filter with 3dB extinction ratio. The coherence and Jones matrix formalism for the system description were applied. Utilized in the system a fiber-optic phase modulator allow measuring the SOP changes by comparison appropriate harmonic amplitudes of the output signal. Additionally, two "dead ends" of the FOSI are used for system stabilization as well as an input intensity control. This system is dedicated for easy and active stabilization of the SOP in the fiber-optic devices where the polarization fading is a main disadvantage.

The device presented in the paper is designed for investigation of rotational component existing in the earthquakes called seismic rotation waves. Generally it is a fiber-optic rotational seismometer (FORS) based on its resolution in the range of 10xE-8 rad/s which can detect the seismic rotation waves in a direct way. The paper describes the first results obtained on the base of data recorded in Ojcow standard seismic observatory. The presented discussion in paper shows a new aspect connected with physical fundamentals of the seismic rotation waves.

The system is assembled from concatenated SAW vibration sensors based on a SAW delay line manufactured on a surface of a piezoelectric plate. Vibrations of the plate are transformed into electric signals that allow identification of the sensor and localization of a threat. The theoretical study of sensor vibrations leads us to the simple isotropic model with one degree of freedom. This model allowed an explicit description of the sensor plate movement and identification of the vibrating sensor. Analysis of frequency response of the ST-cut quartz sensor plate and a damping speed of its impulse response has been conducted. The analysis above was the basis to determine the ranges of parameters for vibrating plates to be useful in electronic warning systems. Generally, operation of electronic warning systems with SAW vibration sensors is based on the analysis of signal phase changes at the working frequency of delay line after being transmitted via two circuits of concatenated four-terminal networks. Frequencies of phase changes are equal to resonance frequencies of vibrating plates of sensors. The amplitude of these phase changes is proportional to the amplitude of vibrations of a sensor plate. Both pieces of information may be sent and recorded jointly by a simple electrical unit.
