Speech acts is not only found in everyday life but also in the film. This research concerns with speech acts produced by the main character in Shrek movie script. The aims of this research are to describe the types of speech acts are produced by the characters in animated of western movie entitled "Tangled". Data of this research in the form of utterances that involved illocutionary acts used by each character in that movie which is taken from YouTube then classify them into categories of illocutionary acts based on Searle's of theory. Myths, tales and other related stories for children have significant role in all cultures since t... more Myths, tales and other related stories for children have significant role in all cultures since they can render the multiplicity of experiences; explain the behaviour of the physical universe; and describe human nature and society. These stories are ‗the most potent means by which perceptions, values and attitudes are transmitted from one generation to the next' (Hourigan 1997, p.1). One genre of such stories is hero story. The hero story is very popular in children's literature and young adult literature since they are considered to be ‗unequivocally good for children morally and mentally' (Hourigan 1997, p.3). To see how the heroic archetype has changed over time, we can explore and compare the journey of traditional female heroes with a contemporary female superhero. This study aims at to know the types of cohesive devices in novel written by an Indonesian popular writer, Andrea Hirata. The title of the novelis Laskar Pelangi, that novel has been translated into English entitled "The Rainbow Troops". This Study analyze English version of this novel. The method to analyze is descriptive qualitativee. The data of this study are all sentences that contain of cohesive devices in chapter 30 of this novel. The result of this study show that, all types of grammatical and lexical devices exist in chapter 30. Where, grammatical devices is the mostly used in this chapter. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh adanya kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan joshi pada tek... more Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh adanya kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan joshi pada teks sakubun. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan joshi dalam teks sakubun mahasiswa tahun masuk 2016 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang Universitas Negeri Padang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Sumber data berupa lembar jawaban teks sakubun mahasiswa. Responden penelitian ini berjumlah 29 orang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian kesalahan joshi pada teks sakubun mahasiswa, diketahui bahwa kesalahan joshi ni dan no merupakan kesalahan tertinggi dengan persentase 17,24%, sedangkan kesalahan terendah terdapat pada joshi to dan mo dengan persentase 3,44%. Permasalah pada analisa ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana novel tersebut mengungkapkan kejahatan-kejahatan pemerintah Rusia dalam menjalankan pemeritahan. Analisa ini menggunakan implied author untuk mengeluarkan bukti-bukti yang besangkutan dengan isu pembunuh berdarah dingin. Analisa ini menggunakan konsep dekolonisasi oleh Frantz Fanon. Analisa ini dilakukan berdasarkan interpretasi teks dan interpretasi berbasis konteks. This article is about the analysis of a novel Exit West (2017) by Mohsin Hamid. The problem of th... more This article is about the analysis of a novel Exit West (2017) by Mohsin Hamid. The problem of this analysis focuses on the issue of being at the crossroads of identity. The aim of analysis is to find out how far the characters Saeed and Nadia expose the issue of being at the crossroads of identity. This analysis involved fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and setting to reveal the issue of being at the crossroad of identity in the novel. The analysis deals with the concepts of hybridity by Homi K. Bhabha that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows that the protagonists are a young man and a young woman who are faced with a condition that places them to be at their identity in being at the crossroads of identity. Thus, the character makes effort to assimilate and imitate to the new culture. These can be seen through their ways to blend with the society in attaining their identity.

It is also expose the contribution of poetic elements (speaker, repetition, and tone) in revealing the issues about showing identity and proudness of Black women. This analysis is done by through text-based and context-based interpretation that is related to the concept of power and knowledge by Michel Foucault. The result of this analysis is exposing about the pronouncement of Black women about their identity and their proudness. Showing identity as Black women is live with culture of Black. Showing proudness of being Black women is respecting their original identity as Black.

This analysis is related to the concept of life instinct which self-awareness by Sigmund Freud that is supported by the text-based and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows about the way the main character effort to enlightenment in dealing with any situation in his life by building self-awareness, gaining thinking skill and having vocational skill.

Figurative language is a way of delivering a message which has an unreal meaning. The use of figu... more Figurative language is a way of delivering a message which has an unreal meaning. The use of figurative language usually found in everyday conversation, in literary works, and in public speaking. Most of the speaker stand-up comedy use figurative language in their performance. The purpose of this study is to find the types of minority majors used in stand-up comedy by Hasan Minhaj. This research is descriptive research which consists of exploring the depth of meaning in each figurative language. The researcher uses scanning techniques on the transcription of the appearance video that the researcher got from a trusted site. The results showed that minority figurative language was divided into metaphors, similes, metonymy, irony, allegory, personification and hyperbole. This study also intends to help stand-up comedy audiences in understanding the intentions and objectives of the speaker or comics with the material presented.

It explores the issue of the exploitation of migrant workers which reflected by the main character and representation of migrant workers. It is also intended to find out the contribution of fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and setting in revealing the issue of the exploitation of migrant workers. This analysis related to the concept of exploitation and alienation which developed by Karl Marx that is supported by the text-based and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows about the industrial owner acts of the exploitation of migrant workers. It can be seen in two ways, manipulating the managing systems and cutting wages.

It is also intended to find out the contribution of fictional devices such as character, stage direction and setting in revealing the issue of the Anxiety of American middle class. This analysis is related to the concept of Anxiety which developed by Sigmund Freud (1949) that is supported by the text –based and context-based interpretation. The result of the analysis from the play script The Humans (2015) shows about the anxiety of American middle class that experienced by protagonist can be seen through causes and symptoms of anxiety.

The purpose of this study besides to find out the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents also to find out the differences and the similarities of the types of persuasive strategies used by the agents. This study is a descriptive qualitative method because it explains and compares the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents to see the differences and similarities. The result of the study shows that (1) the types of persuasive strategies that mostly used by MLM and insurance agents are Logic and Evidence (2) the highest component used by MLM agents is Specific Evidence; however, insurance agents used Credible Evidence.

The data were collected by downloading Minangkabaunese songs based on themes which fail in love or romance theme and rantau theme, listening them repeatedly, identifying and putting them into table. The data were also analyzed by classifying the data, analyzing the data, deciding the research findings, and drawing the conclusion. This study attends to the relationship between students' listening motivation and anxiety. The objective of this study is to criticize the correlation between students' listening motivation and their listening anxiety. This study took 60 students in English Department of UNP. This research handled in correlation research. This study used the random sampling technique for choosing the sample. This study also adopted two forms of open direct questionnaires. There are ELCMS and FLLAS questionnaire that enclose the category range. The issue of the research presented that between listening motivation and listening anxiety were having no correlation. The conclusion of this study affirmed that the high students' listening motivation level had, the probably they would have the high listening anxiety level or not.

The problem of this analysis focuses on the issue of being at the crossroads of identity. The aim of analysis is to find out how far the characters Saeed and Nadia expose the issue of being at the crossroads of identity. This analysis involved fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict), and setting to reveal the issue of being at the crossroad of identity in the novel. The analysis deals with the concepts of hybridity by Homi K. Bhabha that is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows that the protagonists are a young man and a young woman who are faced with a condition that places them to be at their identity in being at the crossroads of identity. Thus, the character makes effort to assimilate and imitate to the new culture. These can be seen through their ways to blend with the society in attaining their identity.

The result of this analysis is exposing about the pronouncement of Black women about their identity and their proudness. Showing identity as Black women is live with culture of Black. Showing proudness of being Black women is respecting their original identity as Black.

The use of figurative language usually found in everyday conversation, in literary works, and in public speaking. Most of the speaker stand-up comedy use figurative language in their performance. The purpose of this study is to find the types of minority majors used in stand-up comedy by Hasan Minhaj. This research is descriptive research which consists of exploring the depth of meaning in each figurative language. The researcher uses scanning techniques on the transcription of the appearance video that the researcher got from a trusted site. The results showed that minority figurative language was divided into metaphors, similes, metonymy, irony, allegory, personification and hyperbole. This study also intends to help stand-up comedy audiences in understanding the intentions and objectives of the speaker or comics with the material presented.

This analysis related to the concept of exploitation and alienation which developed by Karl Marx that is supported by the text-based and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows about the industrial owner acts of the exploitation of migrant workers. It can be seen in two ways, manipulating the managing systems and cutting wages.

This analysis is related to the concept of Anxiety which developed by Sigmund Freud (1949) that is supported by the text –based and context-based interpretation. The result of the analysis from the play script The Humans (2015) shows about the anxiety of American middle class that experienced by protagonist can be seen through causes and symptoms of anxiety.

The purpose of this study besides to find out the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents also to find out the differences and the similarities of the types of persuasive strategies used by the agents. This study is a descriptive qualitative method because it explains and compares the types of persuasive strategies used by MLM and insurance agents to see the differences and similarities. The result of the study shows that (1) the types of persuasive strategies that mostly used by MLM and insurance agents are Logic and Evidence (2) the highest component used by MLM agents is Specific Evidence; however, insurance agents used Credible Evidence.

The data were collected by downloading Minangkabaunese songs based on themes which fail in love or romance theme and rantau theme, listening them repeatedly, identifying and putting them into table. The data were also analyzed by classifying the data, analyzing the data, deciding the research findings, and drawing the conclusion. This study attends to the relationship between students' listening motivation and anxiety. The objective of this study is to criticize the correlation between students' listening motivation and their listening anxiety. This study took 60 students in English Department of UNP. This research handled in correlation research. This study used the random sampling technique for choosing the sample. This study also adopted two forms of open direct questionnaires. There are ELCMS and FLLAS questionnaire that enclose the category range. The issue of the research presented that between listening motivation and listening anxiety were having no correlation. The conclusion of this study affirmed that the high students' listening motivation level had, the probably they would have the high listening anxiety level or not.
