Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) enables collecting data on mental health, but it is challenging to implement in fast-paced and controlled work environments. We describe the design of an EMA device for workers in a garment factory, along with individual data visualisation, which were evaluated in naturalistic setting with eight workers for one week during work hours to understand whether and how participants would engage with the device. Participants easily used the device at work and appropriated it in different ways, mainly by extending its declared function. Confrontation with individual data visualisations led to episodes of self-discovery and participants suggested extending the use of the device to more operators to get a picture of workers’ wellbeing. However, participants expressed doubts about data validity.

However, very few is known about the impact of automatic driving on traffic and how drivers will accept, use, trust and interact in traffic when driving a vehicle with a certain level of automation. Additionally, most of the potential users have unrealistic representations of autonomous vehicles, the driver's role in automation or the impacts of full automation on the road transport system. Aiming at better understanding the drivers' behavior when dealing with automated driving, this paper addresses the following issues based on a state of the art on automated driving: drivers' preferences for the automation levels across different categories of drivers; limits of the technology; needs for changes in traffic laws, as well as licensing and training; driver's promptness to resume the vehicle control following a long period of autonomous driving.

However, their understanding does not usually adopt a gender perspective, even though the gendered division of work has differentiated health outcomes. As sustainability is at the top of the political agenda and in consideration of the gender segregation that exists at work, it is pertinent to question how I4.0 technologies are reconfiguring workplaces and impacting women and men’s health. Following a systematic review approach using the PRISMA protocol, this study explores how gender is integrated in I4.0-themed studies, exploring employment, work, and health. After the identification and screening phases were completed, a total of 16 papers were included. Literature exploring technological transformation from a gender point of view is scarce, as well as research developed in concrete work contexts. The literature in ...

As the operator working in these new settings, known as the Operator 4.0, is a relatively recent concept, and although technological developments are expected to support workers and require higher labor skills, the risks and health impacts resulting from these changes remain underexplored. This systematic review aims to (i) systematize literature findings on how workers are perceived and participate in I4.0 work systems; (ii) identify the main technological changes driven by I4.0; and (iii) instigate discussion regarding the impacts these changes may have for workers and the sustainability of work systems. Following a systematic review approach using the PRISMA protocol, the articles were organized into two main analysis axes: the technical changes brought about by I4.0, and the representation of the human worker within these new work set...

The focus of this study is placed on questioning the technique by the social dimension: what acceptability profiles emerge from these perceptions? This study analyzes the determinant factors of AVs acceptability to identify different Portuguese population clusters. A survey was developed, in the scope of the AUTODRIVING project, with 501 participants. Three acceptability clusters were identified: Objectors; Ambivalent; and Enthusiasts. To complement these results, five focus groups were carried out, involving both professional and regular drivers. The results enabled the access to a situated point of view, considering the current experience of driving, particularly in the case of professional drivers. This study could contribute to deploying AVs, highlighting the importance of a contextualized analysis hic and nunc, and allowing...

Our goal is to provide evidence whether the harmful use of alcohol has expression under such conditions and which factors favor it. In these unsafe workplaces, the emotional demand is high and the workforce is usually defined by men, among whom alcohol abuse grows both inside and outside of workplace, affecting the longevity of workers. In 2016, the global alcoholic legacy exceeded 132 million disability-adjusted life years, about a half was caused by mental disorder and 40% by traumatic injury. It also exceeded 3 million deaths, 75% occurred among men. Alcoholization may be an underlying blocking symptom during the construction of the individual’s identity, where the work has a mediator function and may not necessarily be practiced by an alcoholic. Moreover,...

This conference began in 1995 as a National Conference on Electrical Engineering and changed its status as an international conference in 2004. The conference remains as a specialized forum, where local research groups can present their recent results and proposals, interact with each other, and have the opportunity to become aware of the recent research and developments from leading institutions abroad, too. The interaction with technological industry managers and government officers keeps a special place in the activities of the conference. This year we received 128 submissions from 28 countries (including Mexico), from which 88 were accepted for oral presentation. We received submissions from countries such as Algeria,
