A single OBP LmigOBP1 has been identified in the antennae of Locusta migratoria, though four isoforms have been detected. Here, we have investigated the ligand-binding specificity of LmigOBP1 using 67 volatile odor compounds. Fluorescence assays indicate that LmigOBP1 does not bind fecal volatiles or green leaf odors, but shows high affinity for some linear aliphatic compounds, with pentadecanol and 2-pentadecanone being the strongest binding ligands. A 3-dimensional (3D) model of LmigOBP1 was built by homology modeling. Docking simulations based on this model suggested that Asn74 of LmigOBP1 is a key binding site, and this was validated by site-directed mutagenesis and fluorescence assays. We suggest that, as a general rule, a hydrophilic amino acid at the entrance of the binding cavity participates in initial recognition of ligands, and contributes to ligand-binding specificity of OBPs.

The results showed that the juvenile A. sinensis mainly fed on demersal fish, polychaeta and amphipoda, as well as some small-sized benthic invertebrates including shrimp, crab and bivalve. The feeding rate and intensity were higher, and the feeding intensity varied monthly. The main food items also varied monthly, and changed from small-sized to relative large-sized species. The main diet composition included polychaeta and crab in May, fish and amphipoda in June, fish and polychaeta in July, empty stomach in August, and fish and shrimp in September. In the diet, the proportion of Platycephalidae, an important prey of juvenile A. sinensis in the past, was very low, only accounting for 1.81% of the total food by mass, while that of Gobiidae and Isopoda, which had not been recorded in the diet, was higher, accounting for 50.54% and 10:07% of the total, respectively.

This study was approved by the local institutional review board, and all patients or their guardians provided written informed consent. Consecutive patients with nephrotic syndrome (24-hour urine protein > 3.5 g) underwent combined CT pulmonary angiography for PE pulmonary embolism and renal CT venography for RVT renal vein thrombosis . Prevalence of PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis was estimated for different ages, sexes, and histopathologic types of nephrotic syndrome. Multivariate analysis was used to determine independent predictors for PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis in patients with nephrotic syndrome. There were 512 patients in the study cohort (331 male patients, 181 female patients; mean age, 37 years ± 17 [standard deviation]; range, 9-81 years), including 80 children. One hundred eighty (35%) of 512 patients had PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis , with PE pulmonary embolism the more common condition (85% [153 of 180]). PE pulmonary embolism was associated with RVT renal vein thrombosis in 85 (56%) of 153 patients and was isolated in 68 patients (44%). Most patients with PE pulmonary embolism (84% [128 of 153]) were asymptomatic. One hundred twelve (22%) of 505 patients had RVT renal vein thrombosis . PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis was found in 15 (19%) of 80 children with nephrotic syndrome, while 165 (38%) of 432 adult patients with nephrotic syndrome had PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis (P = .001). Membranous nephropathy was the most common histopathologic type associated with PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis (48% [88 of 183]). Membranous nephropathy, age greater than 60 years, high hemoglobin level, long prothrombin time, and high creatinine level were independent predictors of PE pulmonary embolism and/or RVT renal vein thrombosis (P < .05 for all). PE pulmonary embolism and RVT renal vein thrombosis are common in patients with nephrotic syndrome. PE pulmonary embolism is more common than RVT renal vein thrombosis , is most often asymptomatic, and is most frequently found in patients with membranous nephropathy. A high index of suspicion and a low threshold for diagnostic work-up is warranted in these patients.

The mechanism of Tm3+→Tm3+ and Yb3+←⇔Tm3+ energy transfers and fluorescence properties have been investigated in both Tm3+ single-doped and Yb3+/Tm3+ double-doped AYF glasses. The cross-relaxation process, 3F4+3H6→23H4, is proved, which makes the optimum Tm3+ concentration of 1.77µm fluorescence (3H4→ 3H6) much higher than 1.45µm fluorescence (3F4→ 3H4) in Tm3+:AYF glasses. In Yb3+/Tm3+:AYF glasses, a stronger concentration quenching is found for the 476nm emission than that for the 797nm emission and is discussed under the 970nm-excitation.

A radar speed measurement system for railway traffic based on digital signal processor TMS320C674... more A radar speed measurement system for railway traffic based on digital signal processor TMS320C6745 is introduced. The system is designed to be used on high-speed trains. The working principle and the structure of the system are described. This system is based on a compensation structure of dual-radar module to eliminate the effects resulting from shaking of the trains. It also has a variety of working modes to adapt to different working conditions. After the Doppler frequency signals from the radar microwave modules are amplified and filtered, the DSP selects the appropriate working mode and gives instructions to collect and process the signals, and eventually sends the results to the display unit. The experimental results show that the system has high accuracy and good stability.

Adding straw and phosphorus had significant effects on the soil microbial total biomass (MTB), bacterial biomass (MB), fungal biomass (FB), and fungi to bacteria ratio (F/B), which all decreased in order of N1P1>N1P0>N1P2>N1P3>N0P1>N0P2>N0P3. MTB, MB, FB and F/B ratio of the wheat straw addition treatments were all significantly higher than in the non-straw addition treatments under the same level of phosphorus addition. As for the same wheat straw addition, MTB, MB, FB and F/B ratio increased firstly and then decreased with increasing the level of phosphorus addition, and the combinations of P1 level were optimal.

The fabrication mainly consists of two steps: 1) writing microchannels and microchambers in a porous glass by scanning a tightly focused laser beam; 2) high-temperature annealing of the glass sample to collapse all the nanopores in the glass. Migration of derivatized amino acids is observed in the microfluidic channel by applying electric voltage across the long-migration microchannel.

Circular dichroism (CD) observed by photoemission from the surface states of topological insulato... more Circular dichroism (CD) observed by photoemission from the surface states of topological insulators has drawn much interest. It was initially attributed to the spin polarization or chiral orbital momentum of the initial states, but later proven to also involve the final states. The detailed mechanism remains controversial. To address this question, we have performed measurements of ultrathin films of the prototypical topological insulator Bi 2 Te 3 over a wide range of film thickness and photon energy. The results show that the CD depends not only on the photon energy, but also on the film thickness in a nontrivial manner. A theoretical model has been developed that involves dipole transition, surface photoemission, and spin-orbit coupling. The computed results are in good agreement with the general trends of the data including sign reversals as a function of photon energy and film thickness. The complex behavior of the measured CD function is partially caused by modifications of both the initial and final states in the thin film geometry.

Ultraviolet irradiation had significant impacts on the sperm motility, its fast motion time, and longevity. With the increasing dose of ultraviolet irradiation, the sperm motility decreased rapidly first, increased rapidly then, and decreased rapidly again. The sperm fast motion time had the similar variation trend as the sperm motility, but the sperm longevity kept decreasing with increasing dose of ultraviolet irradiation. When the ultraviolet irradiation dose increased to 288 mJ x cm(-2), the sperm fast motion disappeared; when the ultraviolet irradiation dose increased up to 324 mJ x cm(-2), the sperm had no motility and died. According to the "Hertwig effect", the optimum ultraviolet irradiation dose for inactivating A. baerii sperm was 216 mJ x cm(-2).

In the present study, the motility, fertilization and enzyme activity of sperm were analyzed after cryopreservation. Computer-assisted sperm motility analysis (CASA) was used to evaluate the effect of cryopreservation on sperm motility of Nibea albiflora. The activities of total adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase), creatine kinase (CK), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione reductase (GR) in fresh and frozen seminal plasma and spermatozoa were measured respectively. Cryopreservation led to a decline in the percentage of motile sperm, moreover, other parameters of sperm motion, curvilinear and straight line velocities, linearity were changed observably (p < 0.05), the fertilizing capacity of post-thaw sperm was lower than that of the fresh sperm significantly. After cryopreservation, the activities of total ATPase, CK, SDH, LDH, SOD, CAT and GSH-Px increased in seminal plasma and decreased in spermatozoa respectively, but GR activity varied contrarily, GR activity dropped in seminal plasma and increased in spermatozoa. Cryopreservation had significant effects on the motility characteristics, fertilization ability and enzyme activity of the sperm of Nibea albiflora.

The results demonstrate that the TMDC dispersions exhibit significant optical limiting response at 1064 nm due to nonlinear scattering, in contrast to the combined effect of both saturable absorption and nonlinear scattering at 532 nm. Selenium compounds show better optical limiting performance than that of the sulfides in the near infrared. A liquid dispersion system based theoretical modelling is proposed to estimate the number density of the nanosheet dispersions, the relationship between incident laser fluence and the size of the laser generated micro-bubbles, and hence the Mie scattering-induced broadband optical limiting behavior in the TMDC dispersions.

According to the &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;Hertwig effect&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;, the optimum ultraviolet irradiation dose for inactivating A. baerii sperm was 216 mJ x cm(-2).
