We hope and believe that we can learn from their literature, that by analogy to it and by adaptation of it we can yet speak and live for God, for other people, and for the world" (pp. 7-8). The primary goals of the book are achieved, though perhaps not in equal measure. On the basis of solid scholarship (amply noted, though with no attempt at being exhaustive), Klein succinctly and helpfully leads the reader through an analysis of the designated literature. While there may be no startling new advances or hypotheses set forth, a highly serviceable and perceptive treatment of the sources is the result of Klein's efforts. The chapters on Ezekiel and the priestly writing are especially welcome, but each of the other chapters as well presents a useful, clear sketch of the theological perspective of the writer(s). This is Klein's first goal and certainly it is met. Much less attention is devoted to reflection on contemporary issues in light of the biblical material, but some provocative comments do occur and the reader is forcefully reminded that appropriation of the biblical word for service is the final goal of such study. This addition to the Overtures to Biblical Theology series is certainly in keeping with the quality and intention of the other volumes which have appeared. It will serve well to provide a solid introduction and guide to the literature discussed for seminary students, pastors, teachers, and other thoughtful adults.

Luke 24. 1). A survey of the commentaries on Matthew quickly reveals how pervasive this interest in the Marcan narrative is.2 But while it may well be a reasonable exegetical procedure to compare one Gospel with another, the way in which the perspective described above can also hinder an understanding of Matthew's Gospel is strikingly apparent in M.
