An interdisciplinary team systematically assessed behaviors to be targeted. An individualized program was created for each inmate. Criteria for discharge from this unit were to have completed the assigned programs and to have not engaged in any violations of the rules of prohibited conduct. Data were recorded by correctional staff on problematic behaviors and appropriate behaviors of inmates in this unit. Appropriate behavior was positively reinforced with increasing access to visitors, personal property and negatively reinforced by escaping from the unit upon completion of the assigned program. Results showed a significant decrease from years prior in the rate of misconduct reports and inmate grievances to the administration.

Adolescents respond to interpersonal rejection of their peers in a manner that suggests that the event is exponentially more aversive. Some adolescents face rejection with anxious expectation and intense reactions while others handle the rejection with emotional control. The present author investigates contemporary research that highlights the differences between individuals who are highly sensitive to rejection and those who have low sensitivity to rejection. A high sensitivity to rejection has been correlated with aggression. Additionally, an extreme form of rejection sensitivity may be a factor in adolescent mass murder. Implications for future research into the effect that high rejection sensitivity may have on adolescent violence risk assessment are discussed.

The theory suggests that general laws of learning should apply across species, regardless of what stimuli are used or what response is measured. The literature on sexual conditioning provides a wide array of findings that indicate the importance of stimulus features, and the importance of careful consideration of the topography of the conditioned response to be measured. The present review addresses these issues in a sexual conditioning paradigm in which temporal contiguity (CS-US interval) and stimulus features were manipulated. The methodology also involved measuring numerous response topographies to maximize the likelihood of detecting learning. The findings of these experiments are discussed with regard to general process learning theory and the behavior systems approach.

In Oregon, as in many states, the correctional professional organizes the operation of the facility in such a way that mental and physical health needs, educational opportunities, work skill development programs, job opportunities, and recreation occur in a safe and secure environment. Yet, within this context, not all offenders engage in such productive activities. Some are placed in segregated or special housing units for violent behaviors. These problematic behaviors vary from harassing and provocative to damaging and dangerous. Staff may be physically assaulted or assaulted with a mixture of bodily fluids thrown in their face. While in these segregated housing environments, some offenders continue to engage in these problematic behaviors. Staff are subjected to hours of seemingly incessant yelling and screaming. A single offender has, with his bare hands, effectively ...
