Service provision is needed for these goals to be realized. This paper presents a situational analysis of ear and hearing care services in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, to contribute to the development of improved services. The paper provides a baseline overview of what is known about ear and hearing care, including a context analysis, suggestions on realistic targets for change, and recommendations for further work, policy development, and research. The World Health Organization Ear and Hearing Care Situational Analysis Tool for data collection and analysis was used to collect data from a cross section of respondents including providers and beneficiaries of services. Results indicate that there is a severe shortage of ear and hearing services, limited accessibility to medical products and health technologies, no training avenues locally available and no clear strategy to identify and address components and gaps. The study recommends an urgent need for the design of a 5-year strategic plan to address the gaps which should include strong representation from the deaf and hearing-impaired communities. This plan should ensure that every hospital and health center has a clear process for assessing clients of all ages for hearing impairments and that processes facilitating the acquisition of hearing care technologies are established. More broadly Information on hearing care needs to be shared in the mainstream and the deaf communities.

In this article, a group of health professionals from the North-West Region of Cameroon report on efforts to improve within-profession, interprofessional and interorganisational collaboration in eye care services. The article describes what collaboration is in healthcare and how it benefits patients, professionals and health systems, using eye and vision care services as an example. Obstacles such as the absence of a coordinated eye care system and the lack of institutional support are described. Seven successful strategies to promote collaboration in this context are identified, and their applications in this context are described. These strategies are as follows: being committed to collaboration; being client-focused; supporting interprofessional and continuing education; embracing new technologies; building relationships between profession...

The paper is a short report on the summative evaluation. Results: GRID Network members reported that the network was effective and beneficial. They developed new information and knowledge that was relevant to their local contexts; shared knowledge from local, national, and international sources; and, increased their skill in using social media for professional purposes. Recommendations include continuing with this kind of community of practice, with greater opportunities for more engagement and training; inclusion of more partner organisations; large group workshops and conferences; increased attention to advocacy for policy change; ...

Evidence in support of the practice in Cameroon is extrapolated from the activities of the SEEPD (socio-economic empowerment of persons with disabilities) program of the CBCHB (Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board). After establishing a number of shortcomings in terms of policy, the paper underlines that there are a plethora of legal instruments both national and international backing the implementation of inclusive education in Cameroon. An examination of IE models both in the western world and in Africa leaves the conclusion that Cameroon can draw from some of the underpinning principles in these areas yet would develop its own model based on work already being done by the SEEPD program in order to suit the social context. The paper thus proposes such a model for Cameroon. The challenges of implementing IE such as attitudes, policy, infrastructure, curriculum, and teaching learning material are considered surmountable especially if attitudes of teachers begin to change. While recognising that it takes time, commitment and effort for IE to be successful and above all sustainable, the paper proposes that instead of waiting in-fine for government policy or intervention, there is need to set the pace for IE in Cameroon using the immediate resources available rather than allow thousands to lose their human and inalienable right to education.

However, the current affordability and increasing use of smartphones make them a good alternative for education and research collaboration. This Partnerships for Inclusive Research and Learning (PIRL) study explores smartphones' role in learning and research collaboration in a multinational community of practice (CoP) involving participants in the Global South and the Global North. The PIRL study used a survey and interviews to realize the optimal use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in a CoP for knowledge provision, research, and professional development in a disability-inclusive development (DID) context. The CoP included some academic and community researchers with disabilities. Survey results showed that 50% of the PIRL CoP participants from African countries cannot use computers as much as wanted because they are unaffordable or lack reliable or affordable internet. All respondents from the Global North could use the internet and computers as much as they wanted, results that reflect the digital divide. Since PIRL CoP participants in the Global South are disadvantaged in computer use, they turn to more affordable smartphones for collaboration and learning. However, small devices challenge the performance of complex tasks like collaborative writing, coding interview transcripts, and contributing effectively to teamwork. This study provides some recommendations to improve collaboration in such situations.
