This paper presents the evolution description and relevance of IVTE-Intelligent Virtual Teaching ... more This paper presents the evolution description and relevance of IVTE-Intelligent Virtual Teaching Environment project in terms of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence in Education field. Furthermore, it describes the importance of Multi-agents modeling used in the IVTE software and also gives emphasis in the Cognitive Agent Model represented by an Animated Pedagogical Agent. The purpose of IVTE software is to educate children to preserve the environment. The IVTE software is implemented with Multi-agent (MAS) and Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) technology, which gives more adaptable information to the teaching process. The adaptable information is promoted by Tutor of ITS or, in other words, by Animated Pedagogical Agent. The Animated Pedagogical Agent monitors, guides and individualizes the learning process using student model and teaching strategies.

Nessa categoria inclui-se o AVEI, caracterizado por um ambiente multiagente que objetiva orientar crianças com relação à coleta seletiva do lixo. Utilizando a tecnologia de agentes, propõe-se a modelagem e formalização de um agente pedagógico para o AVEI, responsável por monitorar o aluno através de estratégias de ensino e modelos de aluno. 1 Bolsista do Projeto AVEI 2 Orientadora do Projeto AVEI 3 Membros do GPEAD Guilly -Um Agente Pedagógico para o AVEI 1 INTRODUÇÃO A Ciência da Computação vem sofrendo modificações nas duas últimas décadas. Da mesma forma, a Inteligência Artificial na Educação (AIED) vem seguindo a mesma linha. Considerando este aspecto, a AIED [1] modificou seu contexto individual para um contexto social colaborativo de resolução de conflitos, identificando uma forte tendência em processos colaborativos entre as partes envolvidas de um software. Ao trabalharmos com softwares educacionais inteligentes, as partes envolvidas são o tutor e o aluno, e a colaboração é realizada entre tutor/aluno, aluno/aluno, tutor virtual/aluno. Para que um software educacional seja considerado eficiente, segundo John Self [2] ele deve modelar as capacidades cognitivas do aluno e dessa forma fornecer instruções individualizadas e adaptáveis a ele. Um software educacional nesse contexto é considerado um Sistema Tutor Inteligente (STI) [3]. Assim, um STI deve incorporar um banco de modelagens específicas de aluno e de estratégias de ensino vinculadas a estas modelagens. Segundo Paiva [4], modelagem do aluno em um sistema pode ser considerada como uma representação explícita de algumas características do aluno em particular, o que capacita ao software educacional personalizar o ensino, transformando-o em STI. O conhecimento trocado entre o aluno e o sistema depende do que há na modelagem de aluno e nas estratégias de ensino. Um STI será mais eficiente à medida que tiver uma base de modelo de aluno mais completa e estratégias de ensino mais adequadas a determinada situação disposta no software. Conforme Hietala [5], para que um STI forneça um aprendizado efetivo, além de modelar o aluno corretamente e propiciar as estratégias adequadas, o STI tem de estar incluso em um contexto social, trabalhando com agentes autônomos [6] em cooperação com os alunos. Segundo Dimitrova [7], além de um sistema apresentar modelos de aluno para comprovar suas características de adaptabilidade, cooperação, apropriado feedback e ajuste do material instrucional, ele será caracterizado por modelos de grupo e não mais de alunos, considerando características de Sistemas Multiagentes [6].

This work presents the design and the features of a flexible realtime 3D graphics engine aimed at... more This work presents the design and the features of a flexible realtime 3D graphics engine aimed at the development of multimedia applications and collaborative virtual environments. The engine, called EnCIMA (Engine for Collaborative and Immersive Multimedia Applications), enables a fast development process of applications by providing a high level interface, which has been implemented using the C++ object-oriented programming paradigm. The main features of the proposed engine are the support to scene management, ability to load static and animated 3D models, particle system effects, network connection management to support collaboration, and collision detection. In addition, the engine supports several specialized interaction devices such as 3D mice, haptic devices, 3D motion trackers, data-gloves, and joysticks with and without force feedback. The engine also enables the developer to choose the way the scene should be rendered to, i.e. using standard display devices, stereoscopy, or even several simultaneous projection for spatially immersive devices. As part of the evaluation process, we have compared the performance of EnCIMA to a game engine and two scene graph toolkits, through the use of a testbed application. The performance results and the wide variety of non-conventional interaction devices supported are evidences that EnCIMA can be considered a real time virtual reality engine.

This work presents the features of a flexible realtime 3D graphics engine aimed at the developmen... more This work presents the features of a flexible realtime 3D graphics engine aimed at the development of multimedia applications and collaborative virtual environments. The engine, called EnCIMA (Engine for Collaborative and Immersive Multimedia Applications), enables a quick development process of applications by providing a high level interface, which has been implemented using the C++ objectoriented programming paradigm. The main features of the proposed engine are the support to scene management, ability to load static and animated 3D models, particle system effects, network connection management to support collaboration, and collision detection. In addition, the engine supports several specialized interaction devices such as 3D mice, haptic devices, 3D motion trackers, data-gloves, and joysticks with and without force feedback. The engine also enables the developer to choose the way the scene should be rendered to, i.e. using standard display devices, stereoscopy, or even several simultaneous projection for spatially immersive devices.
