The aim of the research was to assess the efficacy of the Reducing HIV/AIDS in Adolescents (RHIVA) programme’s cash incentive-based theory of change. The hypothesis of the model is that cash incentives can promote positive behavioural change. The behaviour change is related to HIV/AIDS prevention and other behavioural patterns more specific to adolescents. The study used secondary data from a pre-post quasi-experimental research design collected between 2013 and 2015. The primary data came from 529 responses to a baseline survey and 458 responses to an end-line survey conducted in the Khomas Region. The secondary analysis explored the impact of cash incentives on learners’ sexual behaviour, especially the learners who received full RHIVA intervention (IG2). The study concludes that the full RHIVA programme intervention res...

Therefore, this sociological discourse on national security and maritime piracy has been made, identifying the nature, impact and policy actions taken so far to curb the menace. The discourse, using secondary data from International Maritime Bureau (IMB) to show the severity and pattern of piracy in Nigeria waterways, and the tenets of the three capability gap thesis, found out that while corruption is the major cause of maritime piracy and insecurity in Nigeria, election malpractices specifically equips the pirates with arms directly or indirectly. The government policies and action, as well as the multinational companies’ ransom payments were found to have not been enough in solving the problems and recommendations were therefore made. It was therefore concluded among...

Human rights and reproductive justice frameworks affirm women’s right to bodily integrity and reproductive autonomy without violence, coercion or discrimination on the basis of race, class, ethnicity or disability. The restrictive Namibian abortion law infringes upon all these rights. It is particularly discriminatory against poor and mainly black women who do not have the means to seek safe and legal abortions outside the borders of the country. The high levels of morbidity and mortality related to unsafe illegal abortions show that criminllisation does not stop illegal abortions from taking place. Government has made some attempts at reviewing the outdated law, but progress has been stymied by politically conservative attitudes and the lack of awareness of gender equality and reproductive rights. Although p...
