This is an important collection in South America and the largest in Peru. All type material of Coleoptera were studied and photographed. Complete information is given for each type specimen, including the reference of the original description and labels data. A total of 275 types specimens were listed and arranged in families.

Several properties of P. camemberti are important in cheese ripening, including conidiation, growth and enzyme production, among others. However, the production of mycotoxins such as cyclopiazonic acid during the ripening process by P. camemberti has raised concerns among consumers that demand food with minimal contamination. Here we show that overexpressing an α-subunit from the subgroup I of the heterotrimeric G protein (Gαi) influences several of these processes: it negatively affects growth in a media-dependent manner, triggers conidial germination, reduces the rate of sporulation, affects thermal and osmotic stress resistance, and also extracellular protease and cyclopiazonic acid production. Our results contribute to understanding the biological determinants underlying these biological processes in the economically important fungus P. camemberti.

Four new nitroasterric acid derivatives, pseudogymnoascins A-C (1-3) and 3-nitroasterric acid (4)... more Four new nitroasterric acid derivatives, pseudogymnoascins A-C (1-3) and 3-nitroasterric acid (4), along with the two known compounds questin and pyriculamide, were obtained from the cultures of a Pseudogymnoascus sp. fungus isolated from an Antarctic marine sponge belonging to the genus Hymeniacidon. The structures of the new compounds were determined by extensive NMR and MS analyses. These compounds are the first nitro derivatives of the known fungal metabolite asterric acid. Several asterric acid derivatives isolated from other fungal strains have shown antibacterial and antifungal activities. However, the new compounds described in this work were inactive against a panel of bacteria and fungi (MIC > 64 μg/mL).

Gas phase and rain water were sampled using the aqueous scrubber technique and a wet only collector, respectively. Analyses were made b) ion chromatography. The results indicate that formic and acetic acids are important components of the Venezuelan atmosphere. They are homogeneously distributed, suggesting a widespread source. Boundary layer concentrations during the dry season (HCOOH, 1.8 ppbv; CH3COOH, 1.25 ppbv) are higher than in the wet season (HCOOH, 1.0 ppbv; CHsCOOH, 0.7 ppbv), mainly due to a longer lifetime of the acid during the dry season (~ 6 days) compared with the wet season (~ 2 days). The overall concentrations in rain are 7.0 and 4.0 #M for formic and acetic acids, respectively. The estimated annual total depositions are: HCOOH, 17 mmol m-2 yr-1 and CH3COOH, 10 mmol m-2 yr-1; around half of the acids are removed by dry deposition. It is established that a larger source (~ 1.8 times) of both acids is present during the wet season. We speculate that atmospheric oxidation of hydrocarbons should be the main source of HCOOH and CH3COOH in the Venezuelan atmosphere; soil emissions could make a significant contribution during the dry season.
