Research paper thumbnail of Densities and viscosities of binary and ternary liquid mixtures at 25 °C

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1991

Excess molar volumes, apparent values of excess molar viscosities, and Gibbs energy of activation of flow have been calculated for these mixtures. The calculated results have been fitted to a linear regression equation to estimate the parameters and the standard deviation between the calculated and the experimental data. Key words: ternary systems, excess quantities, bromoform, density, viscosity.

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1991

Isobaric vapor liquid equilibrium at atmospheric pressure has been determined for binary mixtures... more Isobaric vapor liquid equilibrium at atmospheric pressure has been determined for binary mixtures of (-) a-pinene, (+)-limonene and 1 &cineole. The Margules and Var Laar equations as well as the models proposed by Wilson, by Renon and Prausnitz (NRTL) and by Abrams and Prausnitz (UNIQUAC) were used to correlate the experimental data. The corresponding parameters for two binaries are reported here. For the salt industry, only the valuable components in the mineral deposit must be dissolved and removed to the surface for further processing. Inevitably, several minor impurities, such as calcium sulfate minerals, are also leached and the out-coming contaminated brine must be subject to costly purification treatments. Therefore, the inhibition of the dissolution of calcium minerals is a subject with scientific interest and potential economic impact. The dissolution of anhydrite in saturated brines of sodium chloride may be inhibited by the presence of water-soluble macromolecules, being the effectiveness of the inhibitor evaluated from the degree of coverage of the target surface and the desorption resistance. The ideal macromolecule, besides being selective towards anhydrite, should not harm the morphologic characteristics of the main salt in downstream crystallizations. In this study, the influence of some selected anionic surfactants on the solubility of gypsum, anhydrite and anhydrite-rich sediments in concentrated brines was investigated.
