TS-l-10 model electrodialysis equipment (Tokuyama) modified with rotameters was employed in experimental runs. The efficiencies of each unsteady state run were evaluated as specific power consumption with the electrical energy consumed only in stack. The separation performance of K' ions was compared with that of Na' ions.

Experimental measurements have been made on the batch extraction of uranium from phosphoric acid ... more Experimental measurements have been made on the batch extraction of uranium from phosphoric acid solutions using various chelating ion-exchange resins (RSPO, Diaion-CRP200, Diphonix, Purolite S940, Duolite ES467, and Lewatit OC 1060) and a solvent containing ion-exchange resins (Actinide-CU). The kinetic performance of ion-exchange resins was compared, and the effect of Fe(II) and Ca(II) ions on the sorption and elution performance has also been examined. The results showed that the resin Actinide-CU containing a diphosphonate extractant was very effective for removing uranium from phosphoric acid solution. However, the elution performance of this resin with both acid and carbonate eluants was poor. It is concluded that the chelating resins Diphonix, Duolite ES467, Lewatit OC 1060, and Purolite S940 give reasonable sorption of uranium in the presence of Fe(II) ions in batch sorption trials. The desorption of uranium has been performed quantitatively using carbonate eluants. Purolite S940 was used in smallscale column extractions of uranium from phosphoric acid solutions, and promising loading/ elution profiles were obtained.

The breakthrough curves were obtained as a function of resin type and feed flow rate. Boron was effectively removed from the wastewater of Kizildere, Turkey, geothermal power plant by passing it through the resins Diaion CRB 02 and Purolite S 108 at a space velocity of 25 bed volumes per hour. The boron on the resins was quantitatively eluted with 0.25 M H2SO4 solution. The resin Diaion CRB 02 was used to study the recycle use of resin for boron removal from the wastewater of Kizildere geothermal power plant. The capacity of Diaion CRB 02 remained constant after three sorption–elution–washing–regeneration cycles.

These prepared SIR have been used for the extraction of Cd(II) and Cu(II) from phosphoric acid solutions. The effect of phosphoric acid concentration on Cd(II) uptake has been investigated by batch extraction method. Columnar extractions of Cd(II) and Cu(II) from 40% H PO have 3 4 been performed using XAD-7 resin impregnated with Cyanex 302. The resin exhibited similar column sorption behaviour for both Cd(II) and Cu(II). The elution of both Cd(II) and Cu(II) from SIR has been achieved with 4 M HCl solution. The elution of Cd(II) occurred sharply but with a long tail-off and furthermore the elution of Cu(II) was slow.

The main goal of this work was to evaluate the effects of polymer binder type, plasticizer type and bider/plasticizer ratio on pyhsicochemical, morphological and electrochemical properties of the prepared membranes. Physicochemical characterization consisted of water contents, dry and wet densities, porosities, ion exchange capacities of membranes and isotherm studies. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis was used to perform morphological characterization. Water contents of the membranes were found between 30% and 40% while density values were in the 0.7–1.2 g/cm3 range. Porosities were found between 0.2 and 0.4 and ion exchange capacities changed between 1.2 and 2.8 meq Na+/g-dry. Electrochemical characterization included transport numbers of membranes determined by the membrane potential method. Transport number for the membranes prepared with dioctyl phthalate (DOP) was found to be around 0.5 whereas this figure was 1.0 for the membranes prepared with IL. Diffusivity values of Na+ ions across the membrane were calculated by using the Donnan dialysis method and found in order of magnitude-5.

ABSTRACT Supercritical CO2 extraction of phenolic compounds from Zostera marina residues was opti... more ABSTRACT Supercritical CO2 extraction of phenolic compounds from Zostera marina residues was optimized by developing a mathematical model based on mass transfer balances. A linear driving force model was applied considering model parameters such as solute concentration on the surface of the solid (Cs) and in the supercritical fluid phase (Cf), film mass transfer coefficient (kf) and molecular diffusivity (DAB) and axial dispersion (Dax) coefficients. Henry's law was used to describe the equilibrium state of solid and fluid phases. The results of the proposed model were compared to that of the experimental data in terms of transport properties and extraction yield at various temperatures (303.15, 323.15, 353.15 K), pressures (15, 25, 35 MPa) and co-solvent mass ratios (0, 10, 20%). The optimum parameters were elicited as 25 MPa, 353.15 K and a co-solvent ratio of 20% yielding 77.22 μg g−1 dry feed. The model satisfactorily described the extraction yield which can be used for scale-up purposes.

For the batch tests, TS-1-10 ED equipment was employed. During the experimental studies, the effects of electrical potential applied and flow rate of streams on the separation performance of each cation have been monitored by measuring the outlet concentrations of the dilute stream. The operation time was short when a high potential was applied. On the other hand, the effect of flow rate on separation performance was not so apparent. Specific power consumption increased with an increase in potential applied, although it was not sensitive to the change in flow rate.
