The author sets his stories and characters-mostly humble outcast defeated people-in his own homeland, Sardinia. The accurately planned structure as an interview to thirty-two people reflects a multifarious reality with its complex rules and mentality expressed through different points of view, languages and ideologies. The protagonist's story may result contradictory according to the different opinions of people who met him. Also the choice of a hybrid language contributes to create a highly connoted cultural context. In Bakunin's Son, in fact, the Italian and the Sardinian overlap in a manner that cannot be distinguished or graphically marked, since form and meaning are fused together.

The Italian teachers, both native and non native speakers, are challenged to adopt a plurilinguistic approach. Plurilinguism is not a simple juxtaposition of different languages competences, but a rather complex capacity and critical knowledge that involves metalingual awareness, active learning and autonomy of the students. Teachers's role is to facilitate, create and plan classroom activities which aim at the development of learning strategies, starting from critical contact points, lexicon and phonology, in an active research approach. A good example of this phenomenon is the remarkable spread of English all over the world used by speakers of other languages for specific purposes. It poses a debate about what English language we speak in a global context, and consequently what language is acceptable according to the 'norm'. If we consider that in international contexts only few English native-speakers, if any, are involved in the use of English as a vehicular, or a common foreign language, it is immediately evident that a new medium is in use, distant from British culture connotations, and more often locally connoted in terms of different accents, even new lexis adequately chosen by the concrete users in a given, specific, unique context.

Assuming that students, like most English speakers in the world, are likely to use English to communicate with Speakers of Other Languages (SOL), and not exclusively with Native Speakers (NSs). Personal self-development and promotion of intercultural exchanges, in this view, are more valuable rather than mere language proficiency. In such a context, language mistakes may occur occasionally and, if they do not impede communication or create culture misunderstandings, they are to be considered as natural phases of a learning process which students should become aware of in order to adjust their performance.
