Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete was also prepared as control concrete. The main parameters studied were the evaluation of mass, compressive strength, products of degradation and microstructural changes. The deterioration was examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetry (TGA/DTG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of geopolymer and OPC concretes were compared and discussed. The performance of geopolymer concrete when exposed to 2% sulfuric acid solution for more than a year was superior to OPC concrete which is attributed to a more stable cross-linked aluminosilicate polymer structure formed in the geopolymer concrete.

Containers have revolutionized cargo shipping and thus changed the world trade systematically. Container terminals as the transhipment facility playa valuable role in performance of this transportation system. Improvement of this facility has been widely considered in literatures. Automated container terminals (ACTs) have been introduced to pursue this purpose. In ACTs various transport vehicles are automated and integrated to each other. Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are used in ACTs to handle containers between quay cranes and storage yards. Usually scheduling of the AGVs is known as the key factor to improve the performance of ACTs. This paper proposed a heuristic algorithm to schedule the AGVs concurrently with quay cranes. A genetic algorithm is proposed to optimize the simultaneous scheduling of AGVsand QCs. The results showed that proposed genetic algorithm can be used in practical implications while its running time is reasonably low.

Research paper thumbnail of Distribution of electric field in medium voltage cable joint geometry

2012 IEEE International Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis, 2012

Cable joint is used to connect different sections of cable because a cable section is limited to ... more Cable joint is used to connect different sections of cable because a cable section is limited to a certain length. The design of a cable joint mainly depends on the cable type, the applied voltage and the cores. These factors contribute to the way of how electric field stress is distributed at the cable joint. If there are defects exist within the cable joint insulation material, the electric field at that region is altered. The alteration may cause electrical discharges to occur within the defects if the electric field magnitude is larger than the breakdown strength at the defect sites. Therefore, this paper investigates the electric field distribution in a medium voltage cable joint in the presence of defects. The investigation was done through modelling a medium voltage (MV) cable joint using finite element analysis (FEA) software. Several parameters such as the defect size and location, insulation material dielectric constant and insulation thickness have been studied of their effects on the electric field distribution at the cable joint. The results obtained may be able to help in the designing of cable joint structures which can reduce the electric field stress.

These problems arise from shortening product life cycle, rapid variation in demand of products, and also rapid changes in manufcaturing technologies. Nowadays most manufacturing companies expend considerable attention for improving flexibility and responsiveness in order to overcome these kinds of problems and also meet customer's needs. By considering the trend toward the shorter product life cycle, the manufacturing environment is towards manufacturing a wide variety of parts in small batches [1]. One of the major techniques which are applied for improving manufacturing competitiveness is Cellular Manufacturing System (CMS). CMS is type of manufacturing system which tries to combine flexibility of job shop and also productivity of flow shop. In addition, Dynamic cellular manufacturing system which considers different time periods for the manufacturing system becomes an important topic and attracts a lot of attention to itself. Therefore, this paper made attempt to have a brief review on this issue and focused on all published paper on this subject. Although, this topic gains a lot of attention to itself during these years, none of previous researchers focused on reviewing the literature of that which can be helpful and useful for other researchers who intend to do the research on this topic. Therefore, this paper is the first study which has focused and reviewed the literature of dynamic cellular manufacturing system.

ABSTRACT Uncertainty is a condition that needs to be dealt with by Supply Chain Management (SCM) ... more ABSTRACT Uncertainty is a condition that needs to be dealt with by Supply Chain Management (SCM) in many organization. The factors that contributed to the uncertainty have to be understood in order to manage it in the best and practical ways. Uncertainty in an Oil & Gas firm propagates through the supply chain network including vessel sourcing activities that involved offshore transportation and installation activities. It is important to have a sustainable and reliable vessel supply in supporting offshore activities. Therefore, this paper presents the analysis of uncertainty in supply chain management process of vessels in the Oil & Gas Industry. This research is conducted by analysing quantitative data from vessel sourcing database focuses on uncertainty recorded from January to August 2012. It has been found that, the major causes of uncertainty is due to the unavailability of vessel with 51% of causes of uncertainty recorded. This is due to the increment of vessel utilization from year 2011 to 2012. However the uncertainty can be appropriately managed by implementing product departmentalization instead of customer departmentalization which is currently practiced by the firm under study. It can be concluded that, there are four factors that contributed to uncertainty which are vessels availability, project management plan, project requirement, and vendor reliability.
