It constitutes a transparent common platform for the coexistence of multiple operators sharing the optical infrastructure of the central metro ring, passively combining the access and the metropolitan network sections. It features 32 wavelength connections at 10 Gbps, up to 1000 users distributed in 16 independent resilient sub-PONs over 100 km. This paper summarizes the network operation, demonstration and field trial results.

The upstream wavelength is established in a loop configuration by a remotely pumped Erbium-doped fiber and a wavelength selective feedback. Research paper thumbnail of Square Root Module to Combat Dispersion-Induced Nonlinear Distortion in Radio-Over-Fiber Systems

A practical implementation demonstrates the effectiveness of the AM-SQRT approach in linearizing the optical transmission system with respect to the conventional intensity modulation and direct detection system. Index Terms-Adaptive equalization, dispersion equalization, optical fiber communications, radio-over-fiber (RoF).

However, the electro-optical bandwidth and the high chirp values of the commercially available RSOAs limit the upstream transmission bit rate. Upstream transmission at 10 Gb/s up to 85 km, was demonstrated using an RSOA with only 1.5 GHz electrical bandwidth by combining: a) electrical filtering at the input of the RSOA, b) offset optical filtering and c) ...
