HCCI is a new combustion concept involving the merits of both CI & SI engines. In the present work an attempt has been made to attain HCCI by incorporating an external fuel vaporizer. Performance tests have been conducted and the results show some good improvements.

Diesel engines are a major source of contributors of emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarb... more Diesel engines are a major source of contributors of emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. An effort has been made to reduce the emission of such noxious gases by the addition and use of oxidizers in the conventional fuel. Neat Diesel is blended with Aluminium Oxide nanoparticles, Zinc Oxide nanoparticles and Iron Oxide nanoparticles. The blending operations were carried out using a probe type ultrasonicator. Flash point and fire point of the blended diesel showed a marked increase, whereas kinematic viscosity showed marginal decrease. Performance tests were carried out on Kirloskar AV1 single cylinder engine. Results show a decrease in the concentration of the pollutants with the use of nanoparticles, which may be attributed to the oxidizing nature of the nanoparticles.

This paper aims to study the effect of different fuel blends that were used to enhance combustion... more This paper aims to study the effect of different fuel blends that were used to enhance combustion of main fuel in a diesel engine. Performance tests were conducted on a four stroke, single cylinder, 3.7 kW/5BHP diesel engine. Pilot fuel blends were directly introduced through a gravimetric fuel introduction system into the intake manifold of the engine. Based on the result obtained, it was found that, pilot fuel blends have resulted in enhanced combustion of diesel fuel. The pilot fuel blends 70 (DEE): 30 (Methyl Alcohol) and 50 (DEE): 50(Ethyl Alcohol) have shown significant increase in performance and hence can be used as effective combustion enhancers. Inferences drawn from the performance graphs shows and validate that using pilot fuel blends significantly improves the performance of the diesel engine.

Almost 85% of the primary energy comes from fossil fuels. Meanwhile, it is necessary to reduce carbon footprints to protect environment from the way of production and consumption of energy. To overcome this, adoption of a poly-generation system is the most effective way. It can be said as one of the most effective method to enhance energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and control environmental pollution. It is the combination of several renewable energy using systems in a way that the output of one system becomes the input for another. Also, a number of utility outputs are obtained. This way, the amount of useful energy in the given amount of input is harnessed to a maximum extent, thus maintaining a very high energy efficiency. SI and CI engines are entities in which conditions of internal combustion was triumphantly implem... more SI and CI engines are entities in which conditions of internal combustion was triumphantly implemented. In a gasoline engine both efficiency and emissions are less; on the other hand in a diesel engine both are relatively high. It is hard to achieve a win-win situation where fuel consumption and adverse impact on the environment were diminished. Over the past few decades researchers have assigned themselves to strike a balance in this regard, creating Homogeneous charge compression ignition engine technology, which perfectly amalgamates the principles of Spark Ignition and Compression Ignition engines, making it the holy grail of engines. Homogeneous charge compression ignition engines do not employ spark plug or fuel injector to initiate combustion, the lean homogeneous mixture auto-ignites in multitudinous spots once it is compressed to attain its chemical activation energy. Unlike its contemporaries the combustion is flameless, propelled the fuel efficiency along with an enormous decrease in emissions. This proposed work digs deep into conceptual description of the fundamentals of HCCI engine and various approaches to attain HCCI, along with the challenges encountered related to the same being elaborated. Depending on inferences arrived from the challenges different controlling strategies are proposed in this paper.

With increasing population, it is resulting in faster depletion of combustible resources for ener... more With increasing population, it is resulting in faster depletion of combustible resources for energy, hence it is needed to implement renewable resources to cater to energy demands of community housings for a sustainable future. Our work integrates renewable resources like solar, wind along with grid energy to provide a hybrid system, to cater to the above stated energy needs. The above integration is done with the help of trial version of an energy software known as HOMER Energy Pro, which is used for microgrid and any dispersed power generation system planning and its effective development. This helps decide the best system configuration based on the geographic location and resources available, leading us to provide with a sustainable hybrid system solution for 250 average 2 BHK houses for the best possible economy and efficiency with a better future scope. Good improvement in Carbon Credit is seen.
