Dhaka has a limited supply of land for its major urban areas; however, some open spaces are frequently criticized for being inconvenient to users and therefore underutilized. The issue of how to enhance the performance of open spaces is therefore crucial for city planners and designers. Accessibility, defined as the relative proximity of one location to another, denotes the convenience of reaching the destination from the starting point. As a spatial analytic metric, it plays a crucial role for decision-makers in determining where to locate public facilities or amenities in order to maximize their utility. In addition to the traditional accessibility measures, various factors, such as spatial configuration, opportunity attraction, and pedestrian comfort, are also considered. In this specific circumstance, the review tries to exhibit that customary openness measures to public spaces (squares, gardens, and stops) as far as time should be enhanced by other setup based measures. Space Syntax and GIS Network Analysis are two methods for determining open space accessibility. The Organization Investigation strategy estimates the distance between the open space and the neighborhoods it serves, while the space grammar procedure assesses the open space's spatial arrangement. This paper identifies the locations of these open spaces and analyses their level of accessibility using a comparative approach to both techniques. Related to public space inclusion, worldwide or nearby combination in the hub guide might bring about shifting weighting coefficients for openness examination. This study's primary outcome highlights the importance of integration as a critical factor in pedestrian movement throughout the city. Customary proportions of time related to these proportions of spatial design could be utilized to recognize roads with low degrees of openness.

The depiction of the daily activities in this area is characterized by its vibrancy, vigor, and vividness, effectively conveying a narrative that spans from the past to the present. The aim of this paper is to explore the potential for modifications and rejuvenation in order to maintain the integrity of an existing setting and identity within a specific arena. The primary emphasis lies in recognizing the significance and inherent possibilities of urban heritage. This study first identifies and analyzes the existing heritage components in Farashganj, which require protection and development in different aspects. It highlights the challenges facing the builtup area and the decline of historic places. Additionally, it explores how this approach can contribute to enhancing infrastructure and the overall built environment. The study commenced by conducting site observations, visual assessments, and interviews to identify the potential and limitations of the study area. Secondary data refers to information that is obtained from sources such as literature reviews, briefings from local municipalities, technical reports, and local plans. Consequently, the utilization of site analysis and synthesis mappings serves as a means to effectively translate and complement the conceptual initiative in order to establish suitable design guidelines.

Chittagong, as a home of sea and hill tracts, is quite an attractive location for sea and hill tourism. Surrounded by the rivers and hills and the sea, Chittagong possess the opportunity to uphold its image as a fascinating multiple tourism destination where the visitors or tourists will enjoy both the sea and hill. The Chittagong has opened boundless opportunities for thousands of people living in the hilly area and it is needless to mention about the enormous potentials. But unfortunately nowis highly vulnerable to landslide hazard, with an increasing trend of frequency and damage. The major recent landslide events were related to extreme rainfall intensities having short period of time. All the major landslide events occurred as a much higher rainfall amount compared to the monthly average. Moreover rapid urbanization, increased population density, improper land use, alterations in the hilly regions by illegally cutting the hills, indiscriminate deforestation and agricultural practices are aggravating the landslide vulnerability in Chittagong city. The aim of this study is toassess the landslide vulnerability and explores different strategic design measures on the basis of assessment of risk, uncertainty, possible consequences, constructability, environmental impacts and costs. It suggests that, while proposing a specific measure, it is best to keep simple to match the physical characteristics of the hill and the availability of materials. The study makes an effort to contribute in the development of a comprehensive design solution to reduce landslide vulnerability that can be adapted to ensure the settlers immediate safety and at the same time promote a sustainable tourism development.

Conservation is not only preserving a few historic buildings but rather preserving the urban cultural heritage and the environment that gave birth to city culture. The importance of “Preserving Urban Roots”, that is protecting historical cities through preservation, restoration and revitalization, is a universally accepted matter, but in reality it is a neglected issue. Historic urban quarters of old cities are often strongly characterized by environmental degradation and many of them are now suffering serious destruction and are losing their characteristics due to negligence. Shakhari Bazaar in Dhaka is a signifi cant historical quarter, a coherent neighborhood of richly detailed buildings, where a traditional community has lived for centuries, but the existing environment of this area is vulnerable. The living space is no more a very private space but a space within the space and a window to the virtual communities. Houses have changed as people are becoming physically and socially more integrated with the outside world. Houses being built now differ radically from traditional houses in many aspects, from their material and structure to style and appearance. With growing urban living spaces, houses being built in most areas are becoming less influenced by existing traditions and more influenced by popular trends and communication patterns. This study aims to examine the transforming changes and trends of the urban living spaces by comparing houses built in different time periods in order to trace the factors implying the changes. Some of the changing factors of trend and adaptation includes; cultural practice, family size, technological changes, ...

Rationalization in terms of road infrastructure or systems can be achieved in various ways; establishing hierarchy of routes, optimize bus-stop points with density distribution changes, proper integration of motorized and non-motorized transport and providing policy framework. In the highly densely populated city of Dhaka, rationalizing public transport is one way to minimize the mismatch between demand and supply. This paper is concerned with the following issues: providing a general description of the city transport system, identifying problems and demands analysis in the area of study area; studying the rationalization of public transport, particularly public transport system design (routes and their categorization) and proposing the creation of a multimodal hierarchical transport network for Dhaka. The findings suggest establishing a majo...

This demand for transportation is brought about by the increased population of connecting nodes, cities, the rural-urban migration, and the scope for socio-economical facilities i.e. better opportunities for jobs, health facilities and educational scope etc. thus the economic viability of the people which leads to an increase in the usage of private vehicles. Dhaka is an over densely populated city and its transport system comprised of many different modes of travelboth motorized and non-motorized-using the same road spaceresulting in a high level of operational disorder, that significantly diminishes the efficiency and effectiveness of the existing transport uses. Dhaka is experiencing lots of traffic congestion and a great lack of traffic management. There has been no study dedicated to overcome the situation. Therefore, there is an urgent need to introduce a well-organized, properly scheduled rapid mass transit system minimizing the existing deficiencies. In this paper, an attempt has been made to identify the deficiencies of existing public transport system to put forward for an appropriate rapid mass transit system to recover the huge demand. An overview of the existing modes of travel and operation characteristics has been described. Finally, some proposals for integrated hierarchical transport network options are highlighted with the context of prevailing land use and transport characteristics, socioeconomic context of Dhaka Metropolitan city. The findings of this research help planners and decision makers to optimize the investment in transport infrastructure.
