In developing world, countries like Pakistan, most of the patients are not well aware of migraine headaches, as usually taken for simple headache due to no proper awareness. Usually it is not a contagious condition and most of the time it is recoded as episodic in nature. To assess the migraine, its frequency, symptoms, usual triggers and patients' perceptions, the present study was conducted. For this purpose a prospective study was carried out based on properly designed questionnaire. The data were collected from 7 educational institutes, including students of

We report on the application of the UV-laser QWI technique to investigate bandgap engineering of a compressively strained InGaAsP/InP quantum well laser microstructure. The attractive performance of the technique, determined by the ability of a laser to generate point defects, has been demonstrated with bandgap blueshifts reaching 142 nm, with enhancement of photoluminescence intensity. We have also investigated this technique for post-growth wafer level processing designed for the fabrication of laser diodes.

Experimental short fiber-reinforced composite resin (FC) was prepared by mixing 22.5 wt% of short E-glass fibers, 22.5 wt% of resin, and 55 wt% of silane-treated silica fillers. Three groups of specimens (n=5) were tested: FC with isotropic fiber orientation, FC with anisotropic fiber orientation, and particulate-filled composite resin (PFC) as a control. Time-dependent creep and recovery were recorded. ANOVA revealed that after secondary curing in a vacuum oven and after storage in dry condition for 30 days, FC with isotropic fiber orientation (1.73%) exhibited significantly lower static creep value (p<0.05) than PFC (2.54%). For the different curing methods and storage conditions evaluated in this study, FC achieved acceptable static and dynamic creep values when compared to PFC.

The results confirm the antidiabetic activity of N. sativa seeds extract and suggest that because of its antioxidant effects its administration may be useful in controlling the diabetic complications in experimental diabetic rats.

Mineralogical and petrological study of ultramafic rocks of Bela Ophiolite of Cretaceous age reve... more Mineralogical and petrological study of ultramafic rocks of Bela Ophiolite of Cretaceous age revealed serpentinization after harzburgite. It is further evident on SiO 2 /MgO vs. Al 2 O 3 , molar ratio Si/Mg+Fe vs. LOI and MgO-SiO 2-LOI diagrams. The XRD analysis also showed occurrence of olivine, different members of pyroxene and serpentine groups. The three polymorphous of serpentines can be distinguished on (Fe 2+ + Mg 2+)/(Fe 3+ +A1 3+) vs. H 2 O diagram, reflecting thermal regime in the study area. The analyzed samples of the study area showed relevance with Alpine peridotites. The plots MgO versus CaO and Ni show relation with average primitive mantle. The high amount of Ni and low content of Al 2 O 3 in the study area indicates depleted-mantle peridotite. The parent rock is classified on the basis of Al/Si (av. 0.031) and Mg/Si (av. 1.05) ratios as harzburgite. The altered harzburgites displayed as serpentines on SiO 2 vs. LOI plot and SiO 2-(Al 2 O 3 +Fe 2 O 3)-MgO triangular diagram.

The present study is related to the comparative effects of fish oil and olive oil supplementation... more The present study is related to the comparative effects of fish oil and olive oil supplementation on gentamicin induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Three treatment groups (Pretrement, Co-treatment and post treatment) were chosen for the study. Nephrotoxicity in rats was induced by intrapedtonial administration of gentamicin (80 mg/kg/d) for 3, 5,7,10, & 12 consecutive days. The animals were sacrificed 12 hrs after last treatment in each group. The maximum nephrotoxicity was developed on 10 days treatment of gentamicin. For each group a control group was taken without any oil or gentamicin treatment. Beneficial effects of oils were evidenced by reduced serum urea and creatinine concentrations in the group receiving oils compared to the non oil treatment animals receiving gentamicin only. Further, the changed values of alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase activity retumed to normal in kidney and liver tissue homogenates after fish and olive oil treatment. In this study, it was found that co-treatment of fish and olive oil is more effective antagonist of gentamicin induced nephrotoxicity. However fish oil was found to be more effective. Hypercholesteromia associated with gentamicin induced nephrotoxicity is also lowered by oil supplementations. The beneficial effects of these oils are due to counteracting effect of the biochemical alterations induced by the drug.

These treatments lead to significant lowering of blood sugar level and reduction in serum lipids. The levels of antioxidant enzymes, catalase and glutathione peroxidase decreased in alloxan induced diabetic rats however these levels returned to normal in insulin, P. nigrum and V. rosea treated rats. There was no significant difference in superoxide dismutase activity in all groups compared to controls. Lipid peroxidation levels were significantly higher in diabetic rats and it was slightly increased in insulin, P. nigrum and V. rosea treated rats as compared to control rat. These results suggest that oxidative stress plays a key role in diabetes, and treatment with P. nigrum and V. rosea are useful in controlling not only the glucose and lipid levels but these components may also be helpful in strengthening the antioxidants potential.

We have recently examined the MAPT locus in progressive supranuclear palsy and found that a haplotype (H1c) on the background of the welldescribed H1 clade is associated with PSP. Here we report that the same haplotype is associated with the risk of AD in two autopsy confirmed series of cases with ages at death >65 years.

Objective: To investigate the pathogenic basis of this association. Methods: Detailed linkage disequilibrium and common haplotype structure of MAPT were examined in 27 CEPH trios using validated HapMap genotype data for 24 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning MAPT. Results: Multiple variants of the H1 haplotype were resolved, reflecting a far greater diversity of MAPT than can be explained by the H1 and H2 clades alone. Based on this, six haplotype tagging SNPs (htSNPs) that capture 95% of the common haplotype diversity were used to genotype well characterised PSP and CBD case-control cohorts. In addition to strong association with PSP and CBD of individual SNPs, two common haplotypes derived from these htSNPs were identified that are highly associated with PSP: the sole H2 derived haplotype was underrepresented and one of the common H1 derived haplotypes was highly associated, with a similar trend observed in CBD. There were powerful and highly significant associations with PSP and CBD of haplotypes formed by three H1 specific SNPs. This made it possible to define a candidate region of at least ,56 kb, spanning sequences from upstream of MAPT exon 1 to intron 9. On the H1 haplotype background, these could harbour the pathogenic variants. Conclusions: The findings support the pathological evidence that underlying variations in MAPT could contribute to disease pathogenesis by subtle effects on gene expression and/or splicing. They also form the basis for the investigation of the possible genetic role of MAPT in Parkinson's disease and other tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease.
