The purposes of researcher was about figuring out if there was an effect in improving the student... more The purposes of researcher was about figuring out if there was an effect in improving the students' ability on writing procedure text by using the Gallery Walk. The research problem was whether there is effect in Gallery Walk on students' ability in learning writing procedure text. The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of the Gallery Walk in the students' writing ability on procedure text. In this research, the researcher used the pre-experimental design method in one group pre-test and post-test design. There were two variables research namely the independent variable (Gallery Walk Strategy) and dependent variable (students' ability in writing procedure text). The researcher collected the data on the written test (pre-test and post-test). Each written test was a type of questions in the multiple choice form. Each test consisted of 30 items. These data would be calculated into the total and mean score. It would be analyzed the validity, reliability, homogenity, normality and T-test by using SPSS. Based on the findings and discussion of the study, the research showed that the use of gallery walk had an effect in students' ability on procedure text. It could be seen by the mean of pre-test which was Mean Score 63,73 and post-test was 85,43. The value of to (t-count) = 0,716 and (t-table) = 0,266. It meant that the value of t-count was higher than t-table. It could be stated that the gallery walk was effective in students' writing ability on procedure text.

It is believed that internet helps people to do better and faster. It has been used globally in a... more It is believed that internet helps people to do better and faster. It has been used globally in almost every aspects of life. In education, internet is known as the golden key to intelligence, since it offers unlimited resource. It can be learning media in the classroom or while self-learning. Considered as an international language, English is used as main tool of communication on internet. It acts as the language of the instructions and language of the users. It is interesting to analyze its use by students in a developing country like Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia is one of the countries with millions internet users. As a result, e-learning becomes an option to deal with teaching learning process, especially for students of English department. By using internet, they can master certain topics and English themselves better. This study is quantitative research using pre-experimental design. It is aimed to analyze the effect of e-learning on achievement of students in Universitas Potensi Utama. The research result of this study was calculated by using Wilcox on test in which pvalue is 0.462 and p> 0.05 which means the Null hypothesis is accepted. So it is concluded that there is no significant difference between e-learning and traditional learning. However, students have positive perceptions on e-learning because they argue that it can make them highly motivated to learn more about the subject.

Mandailingnese language is one of the vernaculars or Regional Languages in Indonesia that some of the society in Bandar Selamat. People are influenced by another language, because of several factors that people would not use their own language purely anymore. They would shift from their own language to another, which was known as language shift. Siregar (1998) found that language shift happen in the youth generation bilingual in Medan. According to Fasold (1984), language shift refers to changes in language use among a community of speakers such as when a community started to use on language in domain and functions in which its members had previously used another language and shift in the number of speakers of a language. This study deals with the students’ errors in using modals of Can, May and Must. There were 25 st... more This study deals with the students’ errors in using modals of Can, May and Must. There were 25 students chosen as the sample who were asked to write compositions containing the modals. There were errors found in the writings which were categorized into 10 types according to the use of the modals. Type 1 (modal + simple infinitive to) is the dominant errors while Type 5 ( modal + pronoun) is the fewest. In all, there were 52 errors made in 192 modals used. Therefore, the percentage of the errors is 27%. This implies that the students could use the modals quite well. The second most difficult in the compositions is Must (34.92%) while according to their responses in the questionnaire the most difficult modal verb is May (48%) the causes of the errors were that the students lacked the knowledge of the uses; They seldom, practiced the use of the modals in compositions , and applied translation approach to use the modals in their writings. The purpose of this research was to see evidance about improvement of the students' reading compr... more The purpose of this research was to see evidance about improvement of the students' reading comprehension by using LRD strategy. LRD strategy was used to solve students' problem in comprehending text. Based on Manzo and Casale LRD strategy was a strategy that can helps the students more effective in reading process, because it was a strategy that makes the students active, motivated and comprehend text. This research was experimental research in quantitative approach. The sample of this research were eleventh grade students of Smk Swasta PAB 2 Helvetia, which consisted of 64 students divided into two classes, the experimental group and the control group as sample consisting of 32 students in each class. The experimental group was taught using LRD strategy, while the control group was taught using conventional method. The data was obtained using pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given to both groups before treatment and post-test was given after treatment. Then, the instrument used to collect data was multiple choices in the form of English text. To analyze the data, researcher used t-test. The significance value calculated 0.000 is smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Based on the results of calculations, tobserved 4.175 and ttable value (0.05) 1.699. We know that tcount is higher than ttable (tcount > ttable) = (4,411>1,686). This means, that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It can be concluded that LRD strategy significantly influences students' reading comprehension in second grade students at SMK Swasta PAB 2 Helvetia. The benefit of this research was LRD strategy help students' to be active and more undestand in learning English. It is hope that, students can improve their ability in reading text.

It is about the Indonesian acquisition declarative sentences produced by a three-year-old child. ... more It is about the Indonesian acquisition declarative sentences produced by a three-year-old child. The language acquisition study is able to tell us more information about development of language psychologically and intellectually on child. Relationship of surrounding and children affect them in using language. The objective of this study is to investigate the patterns of sentence on Indonesian declarative are acquired by the three-year-old child. The study is a case study, the data were a child's utterances and the source of the data were taken from a child is three year old. The way of the researcher to collect sufficient data, the recorder was used for collecting the data. The child's utterances were recorded every Sunday for three weeks. The outcome of this study found A three-year-old child was not able to acquire the complex grammatical. Of the six pattern proposed, he was just able to acquire three out of them, the running pattern, being pattern and doing/seeing pattern. On the other hand, he wasn't able to acquire the pattern of giving/buying (ditransitive verb), the pattern of making/considering (complex-transitive verbs) and same verb, different pattern. But from those three declarative patterns acquired, a child also acquired more the sub-patterns. Meanwhile the process tells that the subjects' sentence production basically influence by both nature process (that language is basically innate, that children were born with language acquisition device that children acquire grammar of language without adult's instruction) and nurture process (that children's task is learning how different words behave in sentence, categorizing together words that behave in similar ways and extracting the pattern that govern this behavior from the input that they hear around them).

The objective of this research was to improve students' writing ability through teams games tourn... more The objective of this research was to improve students' writing ability through teams games tournaments on procedure text. This research was conducted at SMP PAB 2 Helvetia, the amount of participants who following this research were 32 students. The researcher using Class Action Research (CAR) to know the appropriate data. The appropriate data showed that the total were 81,25% students who succeed the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) >75. The appropriate data come of Cycle I and Cycle II. In the Cycle I using pre-test I the total of students who succeed were 6 students in the third class (9-7) totally 18,75%. Then in the Cycle II using pre-test II, the total of students who succeed were 16 students s in the third class (9-7) totally 50%, and the last the posttest II the total of students who succeed were 26 students in the third class (9-7) totally 81.25%.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan bukti empiris tentang pengaruh penggunaan Teknik Jigsaw ... more Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan bukti empiris tentang pengaruh penggunaan Teknik Jigsaw terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Penggunaan teknik Jigsaw dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam hal menemukan: (a) informasi dalam teks; (b) arti kata-kata; dan (c) gagasan pokok dalam paragraph. Teknik Jigsaw membuat siswa lebih aktif dan termotivasi untuk belajar pemahaman membaca di kelas. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif. Desain dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimental. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Darussalam Medan. Jumlah sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa kelas tujuh. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes. Tes dibagi menjadi dua, yakni pre-test dan post-test. Data yang diperoleh dari tes dianalisa dengan menggunakan program SPSS statistic 25. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pada kelas kontrol adalah72.33 sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelas eksperimen adalah84.00. Berdasarkan kriteria uji hipotesis bahwa jika sig. 2 tailed (p) lebih rendah dari alpha (α) 0.05, maka Ho (Null Hypothesis) ditolak dan Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) diterima. Dalam penelitian ini, hasil dari sig. 2 tailed adalah 0.000 dan hal ini membuktikan bahwa p<α. Ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan dari Teknik Jigsaw terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa.

The objectives of the study were: (1) to find out the types of shifts in Garfield “Takes His Licks” a Bilingual Text, (2) to describe how the shifts occur in Garfield “Takes His Licks” a Bilingual Text, (3) to analyze the reasons why translation shifts occur in Garfield “Takes His Licks” a Bilingual Text. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were words, phrases, and clauses were translated from English into Indonesian. The data were collected through documentary technique. The technique of data analysis was interactive model. The findings of this study revealed that: (1) The category shifts in Garfield “Takes His Licks” a Bilingual Text are 1) structure shift, 2) class shift, 3) unit shift, 4) intra system shift, and 5) double types of shift.
