The necessity of building relationships is going to be clearly established in this paper through the review of current research which promotes the notion of connection between teacherstudent relationship and students' overall success rate. In reference to students' success, that term in particular will be clearly defined as it relates to the classroom performance and later application of the acquired skills in a real-world setting. This paper will explore some of the challenges and opportunities within the realm of relationship building focusing primarily on an online arena.

Specifically, the paper explores the Think Tank as a virtual learning community wherein faculty have shared knowledge and enjoyed personalized learning opportunities for a period of over two years. Approximately 100 faculty members are typically invited to participate in the virtual learning community which meets formally every two weeks (with some summer months off). Between meetings, faculty have developed relationships including multi-directional mentoring and The paper will consider if and how participation in the Think Tank has served faculty and/or why other faculty members who are invited do not choose to participate in the Think Tank. First, the paper describes the Think Tank as a virtual learning community. Specifically, it sets the ground rules that have enabled the community to thr...

The educational process is at the core of human experience. Teachers are main pillars of education, broadening students’ horizons while encouraging their creative and critical minds, ensuring that education provides individuals with innovative and analytical capabilities to tackle the ever-changing job market. Pedagogues of the past were both leaders and guardians of their students, providing a moral guidance on top of the learning process while enriching the lives of their students and reflecting on their own as part of the process. This interdependent relationship created an approach to pedagogy “as the art and science (and maybe even craft) of teaching”. For centuries a teacher as a leader, guided and provided a moral compass that allowed students to be observers of the learning process, assigning them almost a passive...

The study relies on research gleaned from a virtual collegial think tank developed as a means of establishing and sustaining community and develop-mental networks among faculty at a large online university. The research examined demonstrates the effectiveness of an existing mentoring program. Social based knowledge manage-ment, inclusive of mentoring, is examined in the context of a virtual faculty community. Bandura’s (1977) theory of social learning, Kolb’s (1984) experiential learning theory, and Bon-well and Eison’s (1991) active learning are considered as theo-retical foundation on which mentoring and relationships are examined. Best practices for mentoring and relationship build-ing are considered with emphasis on their impacts on creativity and innovation in high tech organizations. Findings of a recent study are considered. ...

Forceful and often uneven integration into the global economic system causes many of the issues that many African nations face. The leadership gaps, gender inequality, bias and multigenerational workforce coupled with inherent lack of strong institutions capable of driving the development agenda in the continent remain an impediment to a full realisation of responsible, accountable, relevant and ethical (RARE) leadership. This article presented two Fulbright quantitative descriptive research projects, which were presented at Mulungushi University in Kabwe, Zambia. The first Fulbright project aimed at educating Zambian faculty and students on how to develop leadership skills appropriate for the 21st-century workplace. The second one aimed at conducting a comprehensive assessment of the current Zambian leadership acr...
