Objective: Creating awareness of educational research and receiving opinions on the existing tren... more Objective: Creating awareness of educational research and receiving opinions on the existing trends. Study design: cross sectional study. Methodology : The present study was conducted on 53 faculty members of clinical and non clinical departments. The participants were given a preformed questionnaire. Results : 100% (i.e. all the participants) agreed that teaching learning methodology is a part of educational research. 58% of the participants thought that lack of knowledge of educational research was the reason for little research in medical education in India. 52% of the participants thought that technology should be used to make medical teaching more interesting. Conclusion : From this study we can conclude that regulatory and institutional support is necessary to motivate the medical faculty in pursuing educational research .

Introduction: Hospitals produce waste, which is increasing over the years in its amount and type.... more Introduction: Hospitals produce waste, which is increasing over the years in its amount and type. Hospital waste is a special category of waste which needs to be handled appropriately with precautions because in addition to the risk for patients and personnel who handle them, they also pose a threat to public health and environment. Objectives: To assess Knowledge, Attitude and Practices about Biomedical waste management among staff of a tertiary care hospital, Andhra Pradesh. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire with multiple choice questions type of answers to assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Biomedical waste management was given to the 3 categories of hospital staff in selected high risk areas like operation theatre, laboratories, medical ward and surgical ward, casualty, outpatient departments. The staff included Nurses including O.T. Staff, Sanitary Staff and Laboratory Staff. The answers were analyzed using Percentagesand Chi-square test. Results: The knowledge was significantly better among the nurses while it was poor among the sanitary staff. Conclusions: It is important to improve the knowledge regarding Bio-medical waste among all levels of hospital staff because this forms the foundation for effective and proper Bio-Medical waste management.

Objective: To study and compare didactic lecture and small group discussions among undergraduate ... more Objective: To study and compare didactic lecture and small group discussions among undergraduate medical students. Study design: Quasi-experimental study Method : Two groups of students were selected from the same batch for the study. One group was taken as the experimental group and the students were taught a topic by small group discussions. The other group was taken as the control group and taught the same topic by the traditional method of didactic lecture. At the end of both the methods of teaching a test was conducted and the scores obtained by the students in both the groups were analyzed. Results: Students involved in the small group discussions were found to have performed better than those taught by didactic lecture. Conclusion: Introduction of small group discussions into the present curriculum of medical education can improve the learning process in the students.
