Generally, the Renaissance is divided into four periods: the Proto-Renaissance (1300-1400); the E... more Generally, the Renaissance is divided into four periods: the Proto-Renaissance (1300-1400); the Early Renaissance (1400-1475); the High Renaissance (1475-1525); and the Late Renaissance (1525-1600). In this vast topic of Renaissance art, a lot of subjects and themes can be discussed but due to the limitations of this paper, the political and religious inferences and symbols in the paintings specific to the Italian High Renaissance period will be discussed. The paper will focus on the possible motives behind the symbolism and the subject and type of the works of art. Furtheron, the latter half of the paper throws light on the masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci, one of the most important High Renaissance artists. The remaining artists of this period are not covered in great detail due to the scope of this research paper.
