There are various ways to connect the power system components to the centralized control stations. This paper elucidates the design of a new power control and motor control centres, which are connected to a centralized control system with minimum use of
external interfacing equipments. The power and motor control centre have been designed to even adopt to low voltage switchgear applications in a cost-effective way and these aspects have been discussed in detail. A Low Voltage power Control centre consists of switchgears such as Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCBs), Contactors, Meters, Current
transformers, contactors and indicators. In a panel there are several incomer and outgoing feeders. Various smart devices are available in the market which can be used for the purpose of monitoring and control from a control room. However, interfacing of these devices with an external system at a later stage becomes complicated. The paper also
discusses design aspects in manufacture of smart power or motor control centre panel. Four such panels have been manufactured and installed in BARC Trombay. Importantly, these panels have been connected to centralized monitoring system of the plant with limited use of external hardwires.

However this requires a plant hardwires and sensor to be controllable and compatible for monitoring and control. The most convenient way to apply SCADA system is to use intelligent devices to connect to SCADA system. In a large plant consisting of components of very old technology application of SCADA system is not straight forward. When the plant is distributed in large geographical area with power system components located at scattered area it require special approach to convert the old technology based devices to bring into a common platform which is understood by the SCADA system. Hot Lab Utility & Engineering Services Section has designed a platform to monitor the power distribution system of a conventional Radiological facility in BARC to monitor its power system utilities for providing better services to the plant. The paper describes the design of a distributed SCADA system for monitoring power distribution system catered in Class I, II, III, IV categories. I.

PLC and SCADA based industrial automation system is the most widely used control system employed ... more PLC and SCADA based industrial automation system is the most widely used control system employed in present scenario and its application is increasing very fast. Starting from a small equipment control to a large plant control these systems are used. Manufacturer also finds it very convenient to use PLC in place of embedded control for their flexibility. Although PLC and SCADA system is a generic term the ranges of product available have wide variety. It depends upon the requirement of the system. Very often it is selected based on manipulated suggestion received from the system integrator or a vendor. It may either results into a costly or a compromised product due to lack of basic knowledge about design techniques. This paper describes a very simple method to PLC and SCADA based system. It will be useful for the actual process engineers who gives the whole work to a turnkey vendor or to a consultant. The method helps to design an architecture as well as select seize of major components. While explaining a general building services system has been taken as an example

The plant should be inherently safe against criticality and should haveactive engineered practice... more The plant should be inherently safe against criticality and should haveactive engineered practices such as various detection instruments, material movement control hardware etc. Strict administrative safety measures are followed after extensive study of criticality risk assessment. Most common methodology for criticality is by control of mass. About 0.5 kg of plutonium 239 or 48 kg of uranium in certain geometrical configuration may lead to criticality [1]. As per IRSN report about 60 criticality accidents have occurred worldwide since 1945 and most of them are in research reactor or critical assemblies [2] Report says approximately 45% reported accidents occurred in 2011-12 are in case of criticality control by mass of fissile material [1]. Priority is always given to prevent criticality accidents. In spite of having all measures to control handling and storage of fissile materials there always remains a risk of failure of administrative and active control or an unprecedented event...
