PEPTIDES 6: Suppl. 3. 257-263, 1985.-A recently developed specific radioimmunoassay for neuromedin B, originally isolated from porcine spinal cord, was used to investigate its distribution in rat and guinea-pig brain and gut. In both species, neuromedin B-li[e immunoreactivity was present in several regions of brain, and high concentrations occurred in the pituitary. The immunoreactivity was widely distributed throughout the entire length of gastrointestinal tract and pancreas, and relatively high concentrations were found in the oesophagus and rectum, lmmunocytochemistry localised neuromedin B-like immunoreactivity to nerve fibres in the rat brain and gut. Immunoreactive fibres were visualised in the medial thalamus and were found very frequently in the circular muscle of the gut. Gel permeation chromatography of pituitary and intestinal extracts from both species revealed presence of two peaks of neuromedin B-like immunoreactivity, the later of which co-eluted with the synthetic porcine neuromedin B standard. Reverse phase high pressure liquid chromatography showed that material corresponding to the later peak was eluted in the exact position of synthetic porcine neuromedin B. whereas the larger molecular size material from the earlier peak was more hydrophobic in nature.

Test/retest practice effects among learning disabled (LO) and non-learning disabled (NLD) childre... more Test/retest practice effects among learning disabled (LO) and non-learning disabled (NLD) children were examined using the Halstead Category Test. Wo experimental pamdigms were performed. The first compared subjects on successive trials. The second paradigm used a control group to cornpan? second trial performance of the experimental group with first trial performance of the controls. Both pamdigms provide evidence of the relative inability of LD children to profit from practice. It is suggested that neuropsychological data can be used for short term test/retest as one indication of the dficacy of treatment intervention for learning disabled children without the practice effect being a significantly confounding variable.

Despite multiple regulations to reduce utilization of interventional techniques, growth patterns continued through 2009. A declining trend was observed in a previous evaluation; however, a comparative analysis of utilization patterns of interventional techniques has not been performed showing utilization before and after the enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Our aim is to assess patterns of utilization and variables of interventional techniques in chronic pain management in the fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare population, with a comparative analysis of pre- and post-ACA. Utilization patterns and variables of interventional techniques were assessed from 2000 to 2009 and from 2009 to 2016 in the FFS Medicare population of the United States in managing chronic pain. The master data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) physician/supplier procedur...

The aim of this study was to assess patterns of utilization and variables of in chronic spinal pain in the fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare population, with a comparative analysis of pre- and post-Affordable Care Act (ACA) data from 2000 to 2009 and 2009 to 2016. Over the years, utilization of interventional pain management techniques, specifically epidural injections have increased creating concern over costs and public health policy. The master data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) physician/supplier procedure summary from 2000 to 2016 was utilized to assess utilization patterns. The descriptive analysis of the database analysis was performed using guidance from the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE). Multiple variables were analyzed based on the procedures, specialties, and geography. Caudal and lumbar interlaminar epidural injections decrea...

Epidural injections have been used since 1901 in managing low back pain and sciatica. Spinal pain... more Epidural injections have been used since 1901 in managing low back pain and sciatica. Spinal pain, disability, health, and economic impact continue to increase, despite numerous modalities of interventions available in managing chronic spinal pain. Thus far, systematic reviews performed to assess the efficacy of epidural injections in managing chronic spinal pain have yielded conflicting results. To evaluate and update the clinical utility of the efficacy of epidural injections in managing chronic spinal pain. A systematic review of randomized controlled trials of epidural injections in managing chronic spinal pain. In this systematic review, randomized trials with a placebo control or an active-control design were included. The outcome measures were pain relief and functional status improvement. The quality of each individual article was assessed by Cochrane review criteria, as well as the Interventional Pain Management Techniques - Quality Appraisal of Reliability and Risk of Bias...

The therapeutic spinal facet joint interventions generally used for the treatment of axial spinal... more The therapeutic spinal facet joint interventions generally used for the treatment of axial spinal pain of facet joint origin are intraarticular facet joint injections, facet joint nerve blocks, and radiofrequency neurotomy. Despite interventional procedures being common as treatment strategies for facet joint pathology, there is a paucity of literature investigating these therapeutic approaches. Systematic reviews assessing the effectiveness of various therapeutic facet joint interventions have shown there to be variable evidence based on the region and the modality of treatment utilized. Overall, the evidence ranges from limited to moderate. To evaluate and update the clinical utility of therapeutic lumbar, cervical, and thoracic facet joint interventions in managing chronic spinal pain. A systematic review of therapeutic lumbar, cervical, and thoracic facet joint interventions for the treatment of chronic spinal pain. The available literature on lumbar, cervical, and thoracic face...
