That long duration and range makes structural health monitoring (SHM) of UAV’s very crucial. However, is it really necessary to monitor the structural health of every UAV? Is there any limit when considering the mission and the scale? Is damage tolerance methodology applicable to large scale UAV’s? Such issues will be investigated during the study.

In addition, they offer higher corrosion and chemical resistance, better dimensional stability and design flexibility over metallic materials. Especially, in aerospace industry carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite is widely used because of its lightweight and high fatigue strength properties. The work presented in this study includes the effect of different size cutouts at both sides of the CFRP composite cylinder under pure bending. The results of a parametric study, concerning on the effects of a pair of cutouts symmetrically located at ±90° positions with respect to the vertical axis perpendicular to the bending axis, varying size of the cutouts and evaluating their effects on the buckling and maximum load levels of circular cylindrical shell were prese...

In order to propose a solution for this problem, an attempt is made by using an unmanned aerial vehicle for the radiation pattern measurement. A radio controlled (R/C) model aircraft equipped with an autopilot system is used for the concept demonstration. A log-periodic antenna is used as the antenna under test and the azimuthal radiation pattern of the antenna is measured. The quite good agreement of the measured pattern with that of the simulated pattern promises that the UAV may be used for antenna radiation pattern measurement.

The CanSat uses advanced and ultra-light microcontroller, pressure and temperature sensors, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyro, camera, GPS, IR distance measuring sensor, and RF communication module to communicate with the ground station PC. Three actuators are considered in this work for flight and ground segments control. They are the motor driven propeller, elevator and rudder. For the flight segment, parachute and attitude control are used to control the CanSat descent rate, attitude and heading. For the ground segment control; both the propeller and the rear landing gear of the CanSat is used for heading toward a predefined location on the ground. The rear landing gear is connected to the rudder rotational axis. An indigenous navigation control and electronic circuit design with the test resu...
