Taking into consideration that, despite facing a similar threat, ARP provisions might vary significantly among countries, this work aims to analyse the potential factors that influence the adoption of specific ARP policies by contrasting the construction of air-raid shelters during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the London Blitz (1940-1941).

In order to face this situation, the republican high command with General Vicente Rojo as its leader ordered the construction of Catalonia's Defensive Lines; a massive defensive system arranged in six different sectors which had two main objectives: delay the occupation of Barcelona for the longest time possible and protect at all costs the road infrastructure that connected with France. In this sense, following the lead of other geographical features all over the Catalan landscape, the Serra de Galliners (Vallès Occidental) was fortified as well due to its strategic value; because it was the last line defence for cities such as Terrassa and Sabadell, which were major industrial centres and, among other military facilities, sheltered the republican air force base that was in charge of the protection of Barcelona. Having this background in mind, the main objective of this work consists in, from a Conflict Archaeology and an Archaeology of the Recent Past perspective, suggesting an archaeological intervention to the mentioned trench system and a subsequent design for a heritage preservation as tool to return the knowledge obtained with this study to the society.
