This document will set forth the background and conference details for an academic conference bet... more This document will set forth the background and conference details for an academic conference between two groups of indigenous Americans; both of whom are facing the challenges inherent in archaeological site conservation on native occupied land. Background On Project: This conference is part of a larger ethnographic research project the goal of which is to document the reality of archaeological site management and conservation at Parque de Saqsaywaman (PAS), Peru. During the course of the 2010 research , it was clear that the stakeholders on the site would benefit from collaborating with another group of indigenous American who have already been through a Values Based Archaeological Conservation Management process. The Quecha, who live and manage PAS, are at an impasse due to the conflicting values of site conservation and community modernization. The next step proposed by this research is to bring key PAS stakeholders to Chaco Canyon, New Mexico to meet with the National Park System (NPS) management and Chaco American Indian Consultation Committee (AICC) for an academic exchange of ideas and experiences around the topic of archaeological site conservation management.
