A hypothetical model of this concept is analysed, which identifies such main components as: preferred life style, life goals and plans, and decisions concerning their own future. This model acknowledges values as the main criterion in creating this concept as they form the base for defining a person's preferred life style, their formulation of life goals and plans and the undertaking of important decisions concerning their future (Czerwińska-Jasiewicz, 2005). The propounded author's own model of adolescents' concepts about their own future has been based on the notion of J. Piaget (Inhelder, Piaget, 1970), concerning adolescents creating a "programme" of their own life, as a specific developmental task during adolescence. The statement that the "programme" of adolescents' own lives is based on a given value scale on which certain ideals and goals can be placed above others seems particularly significant in this concept. The discussion presented herein is based on the above statement. The creation by me of the above model was further inspired by the theoretical concepts and the research programmes concerning the future orientation of adolescents, their goals and life plans and values (

He formulated the following theses: 1) Thesis I on the dominance of empiricism in studies on human development; 2) Thesis II – on the need to move away from empiricism. In the first part of this article, I consider the reasons for the advantage of the empirical approach in contemporary developmental psychology and analyse the logic of this trend. In the second part of the elaboration, I formulate conclusions regarding the negative consequences of the precedence of the empirical approach in psychology and postulated the need to curb this tendency and strive to achieving a balance between psychological theories and empirical research in developmental psychology. I also develop several recommendations that could contribute to reducing the negative impact of the dominance of the empirical approach. The aim of these considerations was to facilitate further discussion on the importance of psychological theor...

What was emphasised therein was the significant relationship between the creation of the own life concept by adolescents and their overall development during adolescence (development of thinking, personality, value system, future perspectives and social development). Deliberations were based on the theoretical concepts of Piaget (1970) and Niemczyński (1980, 1988), as well as in the empirical studies of Nuttin (1980), Nurmi (1991), Zaleski (1991), Trempała (1996, 2000), Liberska (2004), Katra (2008), and Czerwińska-Jasiewicz (1997, 2005, 2015). An extended author’s own model of the creation of an own life concept by adolescents was also presented (Czerwińska-Jasiewicz, 2015). This model indicates the main elements of the own life concept of adolescents (preferred lifestyle, goals and life plans as well as decisions conc...

The theoretical analysis was focused to reveal the relations between adolescents’ psychical development (particularly that of thinking, personality and social development) and the formation of concepts concerning their own lives. The empirical research undertaken was to give a more precise definition of such basic elements of the concept of their own lives as: adolescents’ system of values, preferred life-styles as well as their life planning and goals. An original conception of research was also put forward concerning adolescents’ concept of their own lives, the aim of which was to highlight those elements as well as to define the relations existing between them.It deserve...
