Among those fundamental sequence analysis algorithms, the Smith-Waterman algorithm that adopts the dynamic programming mechanism provides very high sensitivity. Unfortunately, the inefficiency in performance of this algorithm limits its applications in the real world. With the advances in the engineering technology, massive parallelism can be achieved using the FPGA-based techniques. A parallel implementation methodology of the Smith-Waterman algorithm is presented. This method provides magnificent speedup over the traditional sequential implementation, while maintain the same level of sensitivity.

Although men and women show behavioral differences, relating feeding neophobia data on neophobic response are controversial. In this study, in order to investigating gender differences, 266 individuals were tested on a two food choosing task between a familiar and an unfamiliar food items, and also were required to fill in a food neophobia scale. Results indicate that women are more neophobic than men confirming previous research data on feeding behavior. This might be related to females' role to selecting and preparing food in the family context.

Our aim in this paper is to systematise the relationship between three of these linear typed calculi and their models. We point out that mere soundness and completeness of a linear typed calculus with respect to a class of categorical models are not sufficient to identify the most appropriate class uniquely. We recommend instead to use the notion of internal language when relating a typed calculus to a class of models. After ...
