Design/methodology/approach: The real economy perspective was adopted, whereby basic relationships in terms of the development of FDI flows and transactions worldwide were analyzed. In addition, primary data from a survey of internationally operating Polish firms were analyzed in order to shed additional light on the influence of the pandemic on international economic activity. In addition to formulating observations with regard to general patterns emerging from the data, an attempt has been made to outline the likely theoretical implications of the pandemic for FDI research. Findings: In the short term, there was a significant limitation of FDI, caused mainly by the introduction of lockdowns. In the middle and long run, the current crisis will likely translate into acontinued slowdown in FDI flows. ...

We posit the need for the modification of how economic sciences are practiced in ontological, epistemological, and methodological aspects. The need results from the impact of several factors that appeared even in the pre-pandemic period, for which Covid-19 may be a complementary and reinforcing circumstance that may even directly determine the change. Research Design & Methods: The main method we used was that of critical literature analysis. We constructed a set of normative recommendations for changes in economic sciences. Next, we selected four issues to exemplify the areas that require change, for which we proposed a set of postulates that constitute the desired modifications in economic sciences. Findings: The conducted literature review sh...

The pandemic crisis, which fully unfolded worldwide in March 2020, had dramatic consequences for the world population, some of which are of economic character. As some of the global value chains and international trade and investment relationships were destabilized or suspended, a legitimate question arises as to the possible progress of the globalization process. The authors commence with a multidimensional concept of globalization and its critical evaluation. Subsequently, three possible scenarios of pandemic-induced development are identified and explored: disrupted globalization, de-globalization, and finally rebalanced globalization. The discussion of these scenarios also includes implications for economic policy.

Using the literature review, the foundations of the new institutional economics are evoked to verify whether any obstacles exist that would prevent translating the analysis into the mesoeconomic level. Furthermore, referring to Coase's suggestion on bonding economics and accounting, a proposal for industry-level operationalisation is presented, based on profit and loss account and highlights different elements of transaction costs. The proposal constitutes a starting point for further meso or macroeconomic estimations. It also suggests a more in-depth way of estimating the value of transaction costs in industries and economies that could constitute an alternative for the Wallis and North's previous estimations of transaction services estimations.

Jeśli chodzi o stronę metodyczną to wiodącą rolę odegrała krytyczna analiza literatury przedmiotu oraz krytyczna analiza i ocena obowiązujących regulacji prawnych. Ponadto w prowadzonych rozważaniach wykorzystano elementy podejścia diagnostycznego (opis i ocena dotychczasowych rozwiązań) oraz prognostycznego/prospektywnego (zarys propozycji zmian dotychczasowych rozwiązań). Dodatkowo w pracy zastosowana została metoda analizy dogmatycznoprawnej przepisów prawa, pozwalająca na krytyczną ocenię zamiarów ustawodawcy.

Specifically, the objective of the study is to evaluate Poland’s current positioning and, hence, stage of development. The paper begins with a brief literature review devoted to the concept of IDP. It is followed by a review of extant research applying the IDP model to CEE economies. Analysis of macroeconomic data indicating Poland’s IDP path follows. The main conclusion is that Poland is at the end of stage 2 of its IDP, i.e. it is behind the position that its GDP level would imply. This is mainly due to the pull of the large internal market, the still weak competitiveness of domestic firms in international markets and the reluctance of government to adopt more active, firm specific ownership advantage stimulating policies towards outward FDI.

It also strives to identify the diff erences and similarities between the individual countries' IDP trajectories and to arrive at conclusions and policy recommendations designed not only for the analysed countries but which might serve or be of interest to other European states as well. Th e dominating empirical part of this study is based on data derived from the UNCTAD World Investment Reports and Handbook of Statistics. This results from the impact of a series of factors that appeared in the pre-pandemic period and for which COVID-19 may be a complementary, reinforcing or even directly determining circumstance. The structure of this article was subordinated to the adopted goal. Eight areas were selected for which a set of proposals was made for modifications in economic research. The main method used in the study is critical analysis of the literature.

The main purpose of the paper is to determine the timing and explore the factors that have influenced the movement of these eleven CEE economies through their IDP stages. The authors try to identify the current positioning of the CEE countries on the IDP, using both a graph depicting the relationship between net outward investment position (NOIP) per capita and GDP per capita, as well as detailed data on inward and outward FDI stocks and NOIP's absolute values presented in Tables. Thereafter, the authors focus on the CEE-11 countries' outward FDI and apply the outward FDI performance index in their analysis of country IDP positioning. In the concluding section, the authors summarize their findings and reveal the need to add new theoretical considerations to the original IDP model.

Companies have been frequently researched in light of more and more integrated markets. The reverse situation, when firms are forced to cope with the uncertainty of disintegration process can add to the understanding of the theory of the firm and strategic planning. It would also indicate to what extend companies do take into consideration macroeconomic forecasts and whether they adopt a reactive or proactive approach. The chapter discusses the methodology of the quantitative empirical research conducted on the microeconomic level and the results on the study of how and why companies altered their strategies in response to Brexit. We carry the analysis based on Yip’s globalization dimensions: cost, competitive, market and governmental determinants. The research focuses mostly on what impact the exogenous factors (policy changes, taxation, trade barriers, etc.) have on the strategy making. The conclusions may lead to a diagnosis where governmental aid is expected to overcome the uncertainty and facilitate the managerial debate on how to act in the face of disintegration of one of the EU market their companies are involved in.
