The Dutch school system is faced with problems that occur from the fact that a Dutch student has ... more The Dutch school system is faced with problems that occur from the fact that a Dutch student has to make an early choice with regard to his or her future study career. The OESO has noticed that the Dutch school system selects in a rather early stage. This supposedly influences the student's transition to higher education. Countries which select at a later age obtain better results. The study career choice starts at the end of primary school when a student is transferred to secondary education. In this paper we examine together with five schools for pre-vocational education whether an increase of professionalization of career counselors, teachers and managers effectively contributes a better policy for students' choice for a vocational track in VET or for a profile track in senior general secondary education.
