It took off during World War II and experienced its major expansion from 1960 through 1990. During the recent decade it has gone through a process of consolidation derived from the opening of the domestic marked and the shift to exports. All of this has resulted in a reduction of the number of participants and facilities; only those with the proper size and up-to-date technology remain.
