Within the Orthodontic specialty, while LLLT has been widely used to treat pain associated with orthodontic movement, accelerate bone regeneration after rapid maxillary expansion, and enhance orthodontic tooth movement, HILT, in turn, has been seen as an alternative for addressing soft tissue complications associated to orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study is to discuss HILT applications in orthodontic treatment. This study describes the use of HILT in surgical treatments such as gingivectomy, ulotomy, ulectomy, fiberotomy, labial and lingual frenectomies, as well as hard tissue and other dental restorative materials applications. Despite the many applications for lasers in Orthodontics, they are still underused by Brazilian practitioners. However, it is quite likely that this demand will increase over the next years - foll...

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess surface changes of cobalt chromium alloys immersed in diferente cleaners solutions: 0.05% sodium hypochlorite, 4.2% acetic acid, 0.05% sodium salicylate, sodium perborate (Corega Tabs®) and 0.2% peracetic acid. Material and Methods: One hundred and twenty circular specimens (10 mm in diameter) of two commercial available Co-Cr alloys were tested: GM 800 ® (Dentaurum) and Co-Cr® (DeguDent). The samples were randomly divided into tem experimental groups (n=10), according to the trend mark of alloy and cleaners solutions in which they were immersed, and two control groups, in which the samples of the two alloys were immersed in distilled water. Evaluations were performed through roughness measurement (rugosimeter Surftest 211, Mitutoyo), visual evaluation with stereom...

Methods: A total of 75 bovine enamel specimens were allocated into five groups (n = 15). Group 1 was the control group in which the enamel surface was not demineralized. In the other four groups, the surfaces were submitted to cariogenic challenge and white spot lesions were treated. Groups 2 and 3 were treated with Icon Infiltrant resin; Groups 4 and 5, with Clinpro XT Varnish. After treatment, Groups 3 and 5 were artificially aged. Brackets were bonded with Transbond XT adhesive system and SBS was evaluated by means of a universal testing machine. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey post-hoc test. Results: All groups tested presented shear bond strengths similar to or higher t...

Conclusões: as medi...

The direct contact with these tissues for prolonged periods justifies the need of biocompatibility tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of light-polymerized temporary fillings used for MS covering. Methods: Two types of light curing temporary resins, Bioplic (Biodinâmica, Ibiporã, Paraná, Brazil) and Top Comfort (FGM, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil) were assessed for their cytotoxicity in L929 fibroblastic cells. Four groups were analyzed: two experimental groups and two control groups (cell control and positive control). After the incubation period, the cells were examined in an inverted microscope (E600 Nikon Eclipse, Japan) and cell viability was determined using the dye uptake method. The optical density was measured with a spectrophotometer (BioTekTM, Winooski, Vermont, USA). Intergroup comparisons were performed with ANOVA and Tukey tests. Results: Top comfort groups revealed to be more toxic at 48 h (0.488 ± 0.068), 72 (0.519 ± 0.101) and 7d (0.248 ± 0.102) (P<0.05). Conclusions: The resins evaluated presented differences in the toxic activity. Top comfort presented an extended period of cytotoxicity until one week of the study.

There was no history of trauma in the face and jaw or TMJ disorder. The patient was successfully treated by orthodontic approach without performing orthognathic surgery. Pretreatment and post treatment records are presented and discussed.
