It offers a unique window into the state of the art through the participation of a range of researchers, designers and builders who exchange both basic research and real-world case experiences; and invites participants to share ideas about them. This

The community is clearly vital and growing. This year we would like to build on the energy from previous workshops while taking on a more interactive and exploratory format. The theme

The system is intended to maximize the use of the discriminative power of the human searcher. The typical video search scenario we consider has a single searcher with the ability to search with

Working with Cerchiamo, team members use independent interfaces to run queries, browse results, and make relevance judgments. The system mediates the team members' search activity by passing and reordering search results and suggested query terms based on the teams' actions. The combination

Small, high-quality soundfiles are algorithmically recombined and their behavior altered to create rich, non-looping sound environments. These environments consist of sound effects as well as musical tones; for example, the sound of a single water drop or a single ocean wave can be

It was designed as one of eleven innovative reading experiences in "XFR: Experiments in the Future of Reading," a museum exhibit examining the intersections of reading and technology. We highlight the design arc of this particular exhibit, Speeder Reader, against the development of the rest of the show as an example of the impact of the iterating overall design ideology on each piece. This paper discusses the genesis, development context, and design pathway of the Speeder Reader exhibit, including both ideological and practical constraints.

From tools to build new 3D virtual worlds to the products of those tools, cross-reality is becoming a staple of our everyday reality. Practical applications of cross-reality include the ability to virtually visit a factory to manage and maintain resources from the comfort of your laptop or desktop PC as well as sentient visors that augment reality with additional information so that users can make more informed choices. Tools and projects considered are: Project Wonderland ...

Recently, many such systems and algorithms have proliferated in industry and in academia. Unfortunately, it is difficult to compare the systems in meaningful ways because they often define collaboration in different ways. In this paper, we propose a model of possible kinds of collaboration, and illustrate it with
