It has been necessary to learn about the new virus and to adapt preventive measures to a multifaceted environment in order to protect not only students, but also professors, support staff and managerial personnel. The aim of this paper is to describe the interventions of an ergonomics advisor in occupational health, with a view to presenting the contribution made by activity analysis, co-construction as part of a project approach, and the application of the precautionary principle in responding to the pandemic.

Certain risk factors present in work activity are known to contribute to such disorders. Examples would include awkward postures and forced and repetitive gestures. An ergonomic analysis of job tasks, including observation of the activity in question, highlights the presence of risk factors and helps in understanding the determinants of MSDs. Changes can then be made to the determinants, thus reducing the risk factors. The action research program reported in this article was carried out over a period of 24 months by a team composed of four ergonomists and one sociologist. The implementation process was documented in various contexts, and the results were assessed using a realistic approach. The intervention program, implemented in two factories, was divided into three components : mobilization, training and action.Mobilization. Two main activities were carried out to obtain the company's commitment to the...

In this participatory program, seven Ergo groups produced nine diagnoses, leading to 40 change implementation projects, 23 of which were subsequently carried out over a period of 18 months. A qualitative analysis based on several data sources, including the personal logs of four ergonomists responsible for monitoring the Ergo groups, led to the identification of the following variables: scope, sector, project ownership and project management It also showed how these variables influenced project outcomes. A number of elements are proposed for consideration when preparing and implementing this type of program.

In the 26 houses in the Thetford Mines area, 28 air samples were collected; one outdoor air sample was collected; 14 soil samples were taken; one dust sample was taken from a windowsill. The AHERA criterion was exceeded in 15 of the 28 air samples collected and the World Trade Center criterion was exceeded in five of 26 cases. The risk of developing asbestos-related cancer following such in-home exposures over 30 years is estimated at 1 in 10,000. Soil from the driveways or backyards of nine homes was covered with residue from a tailing pile. Of 14 samples, seven had chrysotile content in excess of 10%; in three, content exceeded 60%, and one reached 100%. Dust from the windowsill had a chrysotile content of 1.2 million structures of all lengths/sq cm. These results suggest a real public health threat in the Quebec mini...
