Hence, the purpose of this paper is to disentangle the effects of scientific capabilities and strategic R&D on KIE performance; and how the constituent elements of these dimensions can be configured to generate conditions for high performance. Design/methodology/approach The authors’ empirical setting involves companies that submitted projects to the Innovative Research in Small Businesses (PIPE) program in Brazil. The authors then run partial least square structural equation modeling to verify how scientific and strategic R&D capabilities influence the performance construct. Second, the authors apply fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis to identify configurations that are equifinal in terms of generating superior performance. Findings Findings indicate a strong association between scientific capabil...

The focus on knowledge has lead to increase attention towards information technology (IT) as one of the main source of competitive advantages. Organizational starting points for their functioning lead to a specific organizational structure, e.g. virtual organization. Virtual organizations enable organizational and/or individual core competencies to be brought together when needed, and disbanded when no longer required on one hand. On the other hand, competitive pressure over the modern conditions of business requires a high quality of business functioning. Business functioning of virtual organizations car be significantly improved mainly in the field of its management, which is its least developed and investigated area. An important viewpoint of management presents a holistic information sup...

The purpose of this paper is to explore this conundrum by addressing the significance of creating a global mindset in individuals and across the multinational corporation. In the paper the authors articulate the mechanisms that influence global managers’ abilities to engage effectively with other global managers across borders.Design/methodology/approach– This is a conceptual and theoretical piece.Findings– The authors argued that global managers engage in reciprocal learning processes to obtain new, innovative knowledge about other countries’ environments and business practices. The authors furthermore suggest that the effectiveness of new knowledge creation is dependent upon the appropriate input, throughput, and output competencie...

The content within title, abstract and authors’ keywords was analysed by means of a multiple correspondence analysis based on the HOMALS technique.Findings– The intellectual structure of SM in the Baltic area is to some extent similar to the global structure of the field. Hence research on this topic in the Baltic area is well integrated in the field. Three topics of interest have been identified while the fourth seems to offer more limited opportunities for qualitative studies. These are: entry and competition; strategic behaviour and the micro-foundations of strategy; the growth-performance relationship; and global strategies.Research limitations/implications– Despite the modest number of articles in our sample, the findin...

A stepwise hierarchical cluster and discriminant analysis were conducted to map a joint research agenda. Approaches from Upper Echelons theory and Co-Evolutionary theory of global organizations were adopted.Findings– Top management teams (TMT) are crucial to manage SCML successfully in today’s global organizations. Research on this intersection should draw attention to find antecedents, consequences and the process showing how those talented people gr...

The notion of circular economy has gained prominence on policymakers' agendas worldwide (OECD, 2020), resulting, for example, in the European Circular Economic package (European Commission, 2015). The concept has also become an important field of academic research, with a considerable increase in articles and journals covering this topic in the last decade (Ferreira et al., 2021). A circular economy system requires the design and implementation of sustainable business models. Organizations that are willing to adopt circular economy models need to implement new types of circular business models, rethinking value propositions and developing sustainability strategies that deliver greater cost efficiency and sustainable business performance (Ungerman and Dědková, 2020). However, it also trues that the circular economy model requires implication for both the firms' customers and society. In doing so, customers' environmental behaviour plays a fundamental role in circular business models and, consequently, on climate change. Consumption-based on environmental principles helps to improve society footprint (Peña-Vinces et al. 2021). We should not forget that most customers' behaviour is over consumption-based rather than circular economy principles. The way a customer buy, use, and disposal has an impact on both the firm production and the environment (The BBC, 2006), as it implies more production (C0 2), more distribution (C0 2) and more waste. By nature, a circular economy encompasses multiple systems at local, regional, and national levels through a holistic and systemically sustainable long-term approach. In the literature on sustainable business models, value capture is extended from economic value to include also social and environmental values (Taherdangkoo et al., 2017). The main challenges related
