Organizations are converting from a control to an involvement paradigm to sharpen their competitive edge. Work itself can be characterized in three parts: blue-collar work, white-collar work, and knowledge work. This research addresses the differences between traditional blue-collar work and work teams work in manufacturing companies along eight work characteristics. Research results support that work teams work differed from traditional work schemes. Engineering managers can use this article to evaluate team cohesiveness, participation, and develop relevant feedback that a team can utilize to improve effectiveness.
