This study aims to evaluate the inductive effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on expression of angiogenesis factors and pulpal revascularization of immature necrotic teeth. In this experimental animal study, we randomly divided 28 immature premolars from two mixed breed dogs into four groups, two experimental, negative and a positive control. Premolars in negative control group were left intact to develop normally. In the positive control and experimental groups, we removed the pulps and induced pulp necrosis, after which the chambers were sealed. Internal root resorption lesions may perforate external root surfaces, which may not be detectabl... more Internal root resorption lesions may perforate external root surfaces, which may not be detectable on conventional radiographic images. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging in the detection of small perforations within simulated internal resorption cavities. Artificial internal root resorption cavities with minimal (0.1-0.2 mm) wall thickness were prepared at 64 sites on buccal and lingual halves of 32 single-rooted mandibular teeth that had been split mesiodistally. Perforations with 0.5-mm diameters were produced using a #40 K-file in half of the specimens. All teeth were placed in dry sheep mandibles and imaged using a NewTomVGi CBCT scanner (6 × 6 cm field of view, 0.1-mm resolution; NewTomQR srl, Verona, Italy). Two observers evaluated the images. Interexaminer and intraexaminer agreement were assessed using the kappa statistic. Sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values were used to assess diagnostic accuracy. Intra- and interobserver agreement on perforation detection were high. The sensitivity and specificity of CBCT-based detection of perforation in internal root resorption were 81.3% and 84.4%, respectively. CBCT imaging is useful for perforation detection in internal root resorption defects.

Methods: Pulpotomy was performed on decayed immature molar teeth with established irreversible pulpitis and the remaining pulp was capped with either zinc oxide eugenol, ProRoot mineral trioxide aggregate or calcium-enriched mixture (CEM) cement. Teeth were restored with stainless steel crowns. Results: Eighteen months clinical and radiographic follow-up revealed successful preservation of pulpal vitality with continued root development in all treated teeth. Conclusion: Based on this case report, CEM cement may be an alternative option for pulpotomy treatment of immature permanent molars.

This study investigated the effectiveness of laser-assisted in-office bleaching and home-bleachin... more This study investigated the effectiveness of laser-assisted in-office bleaching and home-bleaching in sound and demineralized enamel. The sample consisted of 120 freshly-extracted bovine incisors. Half of the specimens were stored in a demineralizing solution to induce white spot lesions. Following exposure to a tea solution for 7.5 days, the specimens were randomly assigned to 4 groups of 30 according to the type of enamel and the bleaching procedure employed. Groups 1 and 2 consisted of demineralized teeth subjected to in-office bleaching and home bleaching, whereas in groups 3 and 4, sound teeth were subjected to in-office and home bleaching, respectively. A diode laser (810 nm, 2 W, continuous wave, four times for 15 seconds each) was employed for assisting the in-office process. The color of the specimens was measured before (T1) and after (T2) staining and during (T3) and after (T4) the bleaching procedures using a spectrophotometer. The color change (ΔE) between different treatments stages was compared among the groups. There were significant differences in the color change between T2 and T3 (ΔE T2-T3) and T2 and T4 (ΔE T2-T4) stages among the study groups (p<0.05). Pairwise comparison by Duncan test revealed that both ΔET2-T3 and ΔET2-T4 were significantly greater in demineralized teeth submitted to laser-assisted in-office bleaching (group 1) as compared to the other groups (P< 0.05). Laser-assisted in-office bleaching could provide faster and greater whitening effect than home bleaching on stained demineralized enamel, but both procedures produced comparable results on sound teeth.

The aim of vital pulp therapy is to maintain healthy pulp tissue by eliminating bacteria from the dentin-pulp complex. There are several different treatment options for vital pulp therapy in extensively decayed or traumatized teeth. Pulp capping or pulpotomy procedures rely upon an accurate assessment of the pulp status, and careful management of the remaining pulp tissue. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of new approaches in vital pulp therapy in permanent teeth.

Thirty extracted human maxillary premolars with bifurcations at root middle were horizontally cut 15 mm coronal to the apical end after root canal treatment. The samples were scannedby Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) before and after preparing the post space. Residual dentin thicknesses were measured at 4-, 6-, and 8-mm levels from the apex. Data were analyzed using repeated measured ANOVA. Endodontic therapy and post space preparations removed more dentin within the bifurcation of both roots compared to outer dentin. Endodontic treatment is often complicated in premature tooth with an uncertain prognosis. This article describes successful treatment of two traumatized maxillary central incisors with complicated crown fracture three months after trauma. The radiographic examination showed immature roots in maxillary central incisors of a 9-year-old boy with a radiolucent lesion adjacent to the right central incisor. Apexogenesis was performed for the left central incisor and revascularization treatment was considered for the right one. In 18-month clinical and radiographic follow-up both teeth were asymptomatic, roots continued to develop, and periapical radiolucency of the right central incisor healed. Considering the root development of these contralateral teeth it can be concluded that revascularization is an appropriate treatment method in immature necrotic teeth. A total of 48 sound molars and premolars with mature apices from four dogs, were included. The teeth were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the material used for DPC: PRP, Propolis, MTA, and glass-ionomer (as the negative control group). Each group was divided into two 7-day and 30-day subgroups. The teeth were restored at the same session. This report describes the non-surgical treatment of an invaginated maxillary lateral incisor with... more This report describes the non-surgical treatment of an invaginated maxillary lateral incisor with two fused roots. The mesial root had a C-shaped canal, while the distal one had a type III dens invagination. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to help with the diagnosis and treatment decision making. Clinical and radiographic follow-up revealed satisfactory periapical repair and absence of symptoms after 15 months.

This in vitro study evaluated the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of a methacrylate-based compa... more This in vitro study evaluated the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of a methacrylate-based compared to a silorane-based resin composite in Class I cavity using different placement techniques. Class I cavities with dimension of (4 mm long, 4 mm wide, 3 mm deep) were prepared in extracted sound human molars. The teeth were randomly divided into six groups. The first three groups were filled with Filtek P90 using three methods of insertion; bulk, incremental and snow-plow, and the remaining three groups were filled with Clearfil AP-X using the same three placement techniques. After 24 hours of storage in water at 37°C, the specimens were thermocycled to 1000 cycles. Specimens were prepared for MTBS testing by creating bonded beams obtained from the pulpal floor. Statistical analyses of data were performed by two-way ANOVA/Tukey (α=.05). The experiment showed significant differences between the two resin composites with regard to filling techniques (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05). The MTBS was significantly higher in each of Filtek P90 subgroup compared to Clearfil AP-X ones (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05). With respect to filling technique in both resin composites, bulk insertion showed the significantly lowest MTBS (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05), while no significant difference was found between the outcome of incremental and snow-plow techniques (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;0.05). Silorane-based resin composite as opposed to methacrylate based resin composite and layering placements in contrast to bulk filling method had higher microtensile bond strength.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth discolouration potential of two new calcium-s... more The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth discolouration potential of two new calcium-silicate-based sealers (mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Fillapex and iRoot SP). Sixty premolars were resected below the coronal third of the root. Pulp chamber was instrumented and irrigated via the apical access. Samples were randomly assigned into groups A (MTA Fillapex), B (AH plus), C (iRoot SP) and D (unfilled as control). Colour assessment was performed at baseline, 1st, 3rd and 6th months with an intraoral spectrophotometer. Analysis of variance with additional multiple comparisons of post hoc were used for statistical analysis. All sealers caused perceptible tooth discolouration and there was no statistically significant difference between them. Discolouration progressed within the first 3 months and then decreased until the 6th month.

Recognition of the dental anatomy and its variations is necessary for successful endodontic therapy. It is well known that maxillary incisors are usually single-rooted teeth.CASE REPORT: The root canals were instrumented with conventional hand files and Gates Glidden and obturated by using the lateral technique. Recall radiograph after 1 year shows the healing process of the preoperative apical periodontitis.CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Clinicians should be aware of unexpected root canal morphology when performing root canal therapy. The present case demonstrated the importance of accurate preoperative radiograph and adequate access preparation.

A total of 48 sound molars and premolars with mature apices from four dogs, were included. The teeth were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the material used for DPC: PRP, Propolis, MTA, and glass-ionomer (as the negative control group). Each group was divided into two 7-day and 30-day subgroups. The teeth were restored at the same session. The animals were sacrificed at the mentioned time intervals and the expression of FN and TN in each test group and between each time intervals was assessed with Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U tests, respectively. The mesial root had a C-shaped canal, while the distal one had a type III dens invagination. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to help with the diagnosis and treatment decision making. Clinical and radiographic follow-up revealed satisfactory periapical repair and absence of symptoms after 15 months.

This in vitro study evaluated the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of a methacrylate-based compa... more This in vitro study evaluated the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of a methacrylate-based compared to a silorane-based resin composite in Class I cavity using different placement techniques. Class I cavities with dimension of (4 mm long, 4 mm wide, 3 mm deep) were prepared in extracted sound human molars. The teeth were randomly divided into six groups. The first three groups were filled with Filtek P90 using three methods of insertion; bulk, incremental and snow-plow, and the remaining three groups were filled with Clearfil AP-X using the same three placement techniques. After 24 hours of storage in water at 37°C, the specimens were thermocycled to 1000 cycles. Specimens were prepared for MTBS testing by creating bonded beams obtained from the pulpal floor. Statistical analyses of data were performed by two-way ANOVA/Tukey (α=.05). The experiment showed significant differences between the two resin composites with regard to filling techniques (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05). The MTBS was significantly higher in each of Filtek P90 subgroup compared to Clearfil AP-X ones (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05). With respect to filling technique in both resin composites, bulk insertion showed the significantly lowest MTBS (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.05), while no significant difference was found between the outcome of incremental and snow-plow techniques (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;0.05). Silorane-based resin composite as opposed to methacrylate based resin composite and layering placements in contrast to bulk filling method had higher microtensile bond strength.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth discolouration potential of two new calcium-s... more The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth discolouration potential of two new calcium-silicate-based sealers (mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) Fillapex and iRoot SP). Sixty premolars were resected below the coronal third of the root. Pulp chamber was instrumented and irrigated via the apical access. Samples were randomly assigned into groups A (MTA Fillapex), B (AH plus), C (iRoot SP) and D (unfilled as control). Colour assessment was performed at baseline, 1st, 3rd and 6th months with an intraoral spectrophotometer. Analysis of variance with additional multiple comparisons of post hoc were used for statistical analysis. All sealers caused perceptible tooth discolouration and there was no statistically significant difference between them. Discolouration progressed within the first 3 months and then decreased until the 6th month.

Recognition of the dental anatomy and its variations is necessary for successful endodontic therapy. It is well known that maxillary incisors are usually single-rooted teeth.CASE REPORT: The root canals were instrumented with conventional hand files and Gates Glidden and obturated by using the lateral technique. Recall radiograph after 1 year shows the healing process of the preoperative apical periodontitis.CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Clinicians should be aware of unexpected root canal morphology when performing root canal therapy. The present case demonstrated the importance of accurate preoperative radiograph and adequate access preparation.

Methods: Eighty non-carious maxillary premolars were selected and divided into four groups (n=20). Endodontic treatment and mesio-occluso-distal preparations were carried out in all the groups except for the control group (group I). Subsequently, the prepared teeth were restored as follows: group II: indirect composite restoration; group III: ceramic restoration; group IV: direct composite restoration.
