Seven analytical techniques were applied to the samples, aiming to evaluate MEG degradation. Results demonstrated that increasing sodium chloride concentration from 0 to 5.52 wt% reduced MEG thermal stability time from 44 to 8 hours. Thermogravimetric analysis was the most adequate studied technique to quantify MEG thermal degradation. Measurements of MEG degradation were correlated, using allometric expression for each sodium chloride concentration. The salt free solutions presented 7.2% MEG degradation after 56 h heating, while for 5.52 wt% NaCl it increased to 21.1%. As expected, sodium chloride concentration and time of exposure to temperatures up to 140 oC are important variables for monitoring MEG thermal degradation, especially in the flash evaporator.

Successful implementations of Citizen-Sourcing applications require the citizen to continuously engage with each other and with the government through these applications. In general, citizens expect, among other things, that the government responds to their comments in an application by immediately solving the problems pointed out or indicating when and how they would be solved. In a literature review, we could not find any model for adequately assessing the quality of the service provided by local e-governments for citizens in Citizen-Sourcing scenarios. Hence, we propose an approach to analyze the quality of the government's response to the citizen through Citizen-Sourcing applications. To validate the proposed approach, we have conducted a case study using real data collected from Colab.re, a Citizen-Sourcing application very popular in Brazil. Our main contributions are a novel approach to assess the quality of interaction between local e-government and citizen and a detailed discussion regarding a local e-government's action in the platform.

Different communities have raised concerns about the increasing presence of AI in people's everyday tasks and how it can affect people's lives. There is a lot of research addressing the interpretability and transparency concepts of explainable AI (XAI), which are usually related to algorithms and Machine Learning (ML) models. But in decision-making scenarios, people need more awareness of how AI works and its outcomes to build a relationship with that system. Decision-makers usually need to justify their decision to others in different domains. If that decision is somehow based on or influenced by an AI-system outcome, the explanation about how the AI reached that result is key to building trust between AI and humans in decision-making scenarios. In this position paper, we discuss the role of XAI in decision-making scenarios, our vision of Decision-Making with AI-s...

If the AI informs people's decisions, the explanation about AI's outcomes, results, and behavior becomes a necessary capability. However, the discussion of XAI features with various stakeholders is not a trivial task. Most of the available frameworks and methods for XAI focus on data scientists and ML developers as users. Our research is about XAI for endusers of AI systems. We argue that we need to discuss XAI early in the AI-system design process and with all stakeholders. In this work, we aimed at investigating how to operationalize the discussion about XAI scenarios and opportunities among designers and developers of AI and its end-users. We took the Signifying Message as our conceptual tool to structure and discuss XAI scenarios. We experiment with its use for the discussion of a healthc...

One major challenge for a successful application of AI is to combine the machine learning (ML) expertise with the domain knowledge to have the best results applying AI tools. Domain specialists have an understanding of the data and how it can impact their decisions. ML experts have the ability to use AI-based tools dealing with large amounts of data and generating insights for domain experts. But without a deep understanding of the data, ML experts are not able to tune their models to get optimal results for a specific domain. Therefore, domain experts are key users for ML tools and the explainability of those AI tools become an essential feature in that context. There are a lot of efforts to research AI explainability for different contexts, users and goals. In this position paper, we discuss interesting findings about how ML expe...
Human Aspects of IT for the Aged Population. Healthy and Active Aging

In the scenario of this research, a mediumsized city in Brazil, elderlies with Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases can have home care services. However, the healthcare professionals who assist these patients regularly face challenges in the visits, such as persistent fear of violence in certain areas. This research proposes the use of Intelligent Conversational Agents as a tool for supporting Telecare practices and tame these challenges. Our literature review, however, has demonstrated that previous works did not follow a methodology to promote a co-design of these agents in a scenario such as ours. There is also a lack of works that balance technological and social issues with non-technological experts in the design process (conceptualization, dialogues elaboration, intelligent agent goals and evaluation). We, thus, have performed a study following a qualitative methodology with the participation of health professionals. The first step aimed to raise the context, dialogues, and objectives of the agent. The second step, using observational and interviewing in a controlled environment, aimed to determine and evaluate the design goals, usefulness, compatibility with the reality, and find out additional requirements to aid the development of an Intelligent Conversational Agent. Results have led us to propose the agent MarIANA (Maria Intelligent conversAtioNal Agent). Therefore, it will act to prevent the clinical complications of these older adults suffering from Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases pointed as a critical matter in a recent work conducted in the city of the scenario of this research.

The role of machine learning (ML) models on influencing human decisions shed light on the back-box of computing systems. AI based system are more than just ML models. ML models are one element for the AI explainability’ design and needs to be combined with other elements so it can have significant meaning for people using AI systems. There are different goals and motivations for AI explainability. Regardless the goal for AI explainability, there are more to AI explanation than just ML models or algorithms. The explainability of an AI systems behavior needs to consider different dimensions: 1) who is the receiver of that explanation, 2) why that explanation is needed, and 3) in which context and other situated information the explanation is presented. Considering those three dimensions, the explanation can be effective by fitting the user needs and expectation in the right moment and format. The design of an AI explanation user experience is central for the pressing need from people and the society to understand how an AI system may impact on human decisions. In this paper, we present a literature review on AI explainability research and practices. We first looked at the computer science (CS) community research to identify the main research themes about AI explainability, or “explainable AI”. Then, we focus on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research trying to answer three questions about the selected publications: to whom the AI explainability is for (who), which is the purpose of the AI explanation (why), and in which context the AI explanation is presented (what + when).
