It's necessary for professionals to know how to evaluate it in order to plan more effective conducts. This study aims to perform a systematic review of the adherence of patients with a dysphonia setting to voice therapy programs. This review was carried out on the PubMed, Lilacs, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases, using a search strategy related to the subject of the study. The selection included studies that assessed the adherence of patients with dysphonia to voice therapy using an instrument created for the study or previously validated. Of 1987 publications, 35 were included, of which 14 were excluded for not fitting the eligibility criteria of this review, leaving a total of 21 papers, which were analyzed in full and went through qualitative analysis. The strategies found for the assessment of adherence were the conclusion of the therapy plan, patient self-report, and the use of the URICA-VOICE scale. Therapy conclusion was the most commonly used of the strategies, which showed low adherence to voice therapy. This result shows that instruments like the URICA-VOICE scale measure in a more detailed manner which stage the patient finds himself at the moment of the evaluation.

The GRBAS scale and the wet voice parameter were used to evaluate the data. Videofluoroscopy results showed stasis of food in the valleculae and piriform recesses, laryngeal penetration, tracheal aspiration, and degree of dysphagia. Decreased dysphonia grade and asthenia and increased strain were observed after swallowing, with no difference for the wet voice parameter. Sensitivity and specificity of ± 50% were observed for food stasis in the valleculae and piriform recesses. Sensitivity values of 80 and 66-75% were observed for detection of laryngeal penetration and tracheal aspiration and modification of vocal strain, respectively. Negative predictive values of 77-91% were found for the three assessment parameters with no correla...

This is a systematic literature review on the databases Medline (via PubMed), Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Lilacs using a search strategy related to the theme of the study. The selection included clinical trials that assessed the effects of speech therapy intervention on patients diagnosed with MTD or hyperfunctional dysphonia published over the last 10 years in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. The Physiotherapy Evidence-Based Database (PEDro) Scale was used to assess the methodology of the studies. Of the 634 publications, 12 studies were included in this review, of which three were excluded due to a low score on the PEDro Scale, resulting in a final number of nine publications. Regarding the techniques approached, semioccluded vocal tract exercises (22.22%), nasal sound and frequency modulation (22.22%), maximum phonation time (MPT) technique and vocal hygiene (11.11%), vocal function exercises (11.11%), respiratory exercises along with phonoarticulatory sounds (11.11%), manual laryngeal therapy (11.11%), and manual laryngeal therapy associated with respiratory exercises (11.11%) were identified. These techniques promoted the following effects: improvement in intraoral and subglottal pressure, positive alterations in the glottal contact quotient, significant changes in fundamental frequency measures, increased MPT, and reduced voice roughness. Methodology was identified to be a shortcoming in the studies. The clinical trials reviewed showed positive results in using the therapeutic techniques selected in the speech therapy approach.

Objective To verify whether the therapy consisting of myofunctional exercises associated with vocal exercises is more effective in rehabilitating deglutition in stroke patients. Methods This is a pilot study made up of two distinct groups: a control group, which performed only myofunctional exercises, and an experimental group, which performed myofunctional and vocal exercises. The assessment used for oral intake was the functional oral intake scale (FOIS). Results The FOIS levels reveal that the pre-therapy median of the experimental group was 4, and increased to 7 after therapy, while in the control group the values were 5 and 6 respectively. Thus, the experimental group had a statistically significant difference between the pre- and post-therapy assessments (p = 0.039), which indicates that the combination of myofunctional and vocal exerci...
