The aim of the study was to determine the existing practices, knowledge and attitude of mothers t... more The aim of the study was to determine the existing practices, knowledge and attitude of mothers towards nutrition during pregnancy in urban and rural area. A cross-sectional study was conducted among pregnant women visiting Antenatal clinic at urban & rural field practice area from June to November 2012.Semi structured questionnaires were used to gather the sociodemographic data, knowledge, attitude & practices about nutrition during pregnancy. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 18.0. The nutritional knowledge and practices of urban mothers are high compared to rural mothers , while rural and urban mothers had almost equal positive attitude towards nutrition. It has been shown that 68% of urban respondents and 73% of rural respondents are avoiding some foods like papaya, coconut, and meat during pregnancy. The above findings can be used to plan a customized nutritional intervention programme aiming to improve the maternal nutritional knowledge and practices and eventually improve the health status of the pregnant mothers especially in rural areas.

Results: The mean age at menarche, marriage and pregnancy among subjects was 13.54+ 1.0 years, 17... more Results: The mean age at menarche, marriage and pregnancy among subjects was 13.54+ 1.0 years, 17.5 ± 1.29 years and 18.23 + 0.9 years respectively. The most common reproductive health problems were dysmenorrhoea (37.1%) and menstrual irregularities (18.6%). Only 23.89% adolescent girls having reproductive health morbidities sought health. Majority (83.92%) of adolescent girls were using sanitary pads during menstruation. There was statistically significant association between the type of menstrual absorbent material used and educational status of girls, educational status of their mothers and socio economic status.

To identify and address the role of Social Determinants in glycemic control of type 2 diabetic subjects. A community based cross-sectional study was conducted in urban field practice area of Chitradurga. Considering the prevalence of diabetes 12% 5 with 95% confidence level and 5% of absolute precision the calculated sample was 165 7 . House to house survey was done to get the adequate sample size. Data regarding socio-demographic factors like religion, marital status, literacy, occupation, socioeconomic status. Other factors like BMI, duration of diabetes, type of treatment HbA1C levels, and causes for poor glycemic control was collected by using pre-designed, pre-structured questionnaire. Even though the hospital workers are well aware about blood donation, many of them are not into voluntary blood donation. Hence the present study focuses on the hospital workers.Methods: A cross-sectional study with purposive sampling was done in the workers of Basaveshwara Medical College. After obtaining verbal consent, the data was collected by a pre-designed, pre-structured, self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 21.Results: A total of 258 workers participated, the mean age was 30.83±7.44; 97 (37.6%) were donors and 161 (62.4%) were non-donors. The donors were mostly in the age group 31-40 yrs (48.1%), males (63.3%), those who were single (40.2%), graduates (45.4%), belonging to socio-economic class I (56.7%).
