The follicles were obtained from the ovaries of 6 mares with GTCT and 4 normal mares as controls. Immunohistochemically, inhibin α-subunit was localized in the granulosa cells of all follicles showing different sizes in all GTCT cases and βAsubunit was localized in two GTCT cases in all sized follicles. But inhibin βBsubunit and aromatase were not localized in GTCT cases. On the other hand, inhibin α-, βA-, and βBsubunits and aromatase were localized in the large and medium sized follicles, but inhibin βAand βB-subunits and aromatase were not stained in the small sized follicles in normal cases. These findings suggest that some mares with GTCT can secrete dimeric inhibin (inhibin A), but all GTCT cases cannot secrete inhibin B. By the results of aromatase staining it is clear that testosterone is not converted into estradiol due to the lack of aromatase in the GTCT follicles.

The demand for electricity in both households and industries is increasing rapidly with the increase of the population in Bangladesh [11]. Currently, load shedding is common phenomenon, which is causing severe problem for the country and, is hindering the progress of economy [6]. There are some key reasons for this ongoing problem such as ever increasing demand for electricity, limited natural resources, lower capacity of electricity generation, and less investment (both private and public) in this sector etc. [1,4]. Electricity crisis needs to be abolished as soon as possible in order to become Bangladesh as a developed country [9]. In this regards, the paper presents a low cost but effective and efficient model (fan with dynamo) for generating electricity which might fulfil the increasing demand in the rural areas, where the electricity from the main grid could not be possible, as well as rest of the country. Firstly, the author discusses the present scenario of electricity production system in Bangladesh and its crisis due to the increasing demand and reduces productivity. Finally, a low cost model for electricity generation to eradicate the gap between demand and supply of electricity is presented.

The effect of calcium substitution on the structure and electrical conductivity of Ln 2 − x Ca x ... more The effect of calcium substitution on the structure and electrical conductivity of Ln 2 − x Ca x BaZnO 5 − δ , Ln = La and Nd, has been studied. Differing trends with respect to dependence of the unit cell volume were observed as a function of Ca substitution. For both series of materials the limit of Ca substitution was estimated to be x ≈ 0.2. The electrical conductivity was studied in the temperature range of 1000–350 °C using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in argon and oxygen atmospheres and via isotherms between 400 and 1000 °C as function of oxygen pressure and the water vapour pressure. A marked increase in conductivity of approx. two orders of magnitude was explained by the presence of oxygen vacancies in the calcium doped samples. At pO 2 b 10 −12 atm atm the x = 0.15 materials are predominantly oxygen ion conductors, and La 1.85 Ca 0.15 BaZnO 5 − δ displays a peak conductivity of 0.002 S cm −1 at 1000 °C. The materials display a rise in conductivity in oxidizing conditions, indicating a significant p-type contribution.

In particular how acceptor doping increased proton or oxide ion conductivity was examined in this thesis. Another purpose of the study was to investigate how the phase transition and other properties of brownmillerite structure based materials changes in humid condition. In this thesis the following materials were investigated, pyrochlore structure based materials (Nd 2-x Ca x InMO 7-δ where M=Nb,Ta 0≤x≤0.05), brownmillerite structure based materials(Ba 2 In 2-x MO 5-δ where M=Ga,Y and 0≤x≤0.85) and the zinc containing complex oxide system R 2-x Ca x BaZnO 5-δ where R=La,Nd ; 0≤x≤0.3. These materials were successfully synthesized by solid state sintering method. Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction (XRD) on R 2-x Ca x BaZnO 5-δ confirmed these materials possessed tetragonal structure with I4/mcm space group. Changes in the unit cell parameter with Ca 2+ introduction was proven by Rietveld analysis. XRD on hydrated samples proved that these materials were not stable in wet condition. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed higher than expected mass losses for this system. The oxide ion conductivity of these materials increased with increase of doping level under dry Argon according to impedance spectroscopy data and the reached a maximum of ~0.01 Scm-1 at 1000 °C. The conductivity was also seen to increase further in dry oxygen, indicating significant p-type (electron hole) conductivity. Brownmillerite structure based materials (Ba 2 In 2-x MO 5-δ where M=Ga, Y and 0≤x≤0.85) possessed a structure with Ibm2 space symmetry up to x ≤ 0.5 according to XRD. The unit cell volume expanded with increase of doping (ionic radius Y 3+ =0,92Å) level and contracted with increase of dopant (ionic radius Ga 3+ =0, 62Å).PXRD of hydrated Brownmillerite showed a structural transformation from orthorhombic to tetragonal. TGA result confirmed that these materials were fully hydrated. Pyrochlore structure based materials (Nd 2-x Ca x InMO 7-δ where M=Nb, Ta 0≤x≤0.05) adopt a cubic structure with Fd-3m space group according to XRD and Rietveld refinement. These materials are not good ionic conductors according to the measured conductivity. In summary this work provides a wider understanding of the influence of the acceptor doping on oxide ion conductivity and/or proton conductivity.

Guava and neem extracts showed higher antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria compared to Gram-negative bacteria except for V. para/iaeiuolyticus, P. aeroginosa, and A. /iiidropliila. None of the extracts showed antimicrobial activity against E. co/i 0157:H7 and Salmonella Enteritidis. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ethanol extracts of guava showed the highest inhibition for L. mouocijtogeues JCM 7676 (0.1 mg/mL), S. aureus 1CM 2151 (0.1 mg/mL), S. aureus JCM 2179 (0.1 mg/mL), and V. para/iaemolyticus IFO 12711 (0.1 mg/mL) and the lowest inhibition for Alcaligenes faecalis IFO 12669, Aeromonas hydrophila NFRI 8282 (4.0 mg/mL), and A. hydrophila NFRI 8283 (4.0 mg/mL). The MIC of chloroform extracts of neem showed similar inhibition for L. nionocytogenes ATCC 43256 (4.0 mg/mL) and L. monoci/togenes ATCC 49594 (5.0 mg/mL). However, ethanol extracts of neem showed higher inhibition for S. aureiis JCM 2151 (4.5 mg/mL) and S. aureiis IFO 13276 (4.5 mg/mL) and the lower inhibition for other microorganisms (6.5 mg/mL). No significant effects of temperature and pH were found on guava and neem extracts against cocktails of L. nionocytogenes and S. aureus. The results of the present study suggest that guava and neem extracts possess compounds containing antibacterial properties that can potentially be useful to control foodbome pathogens and spoilage organisms.
