The aim of our study was to find the levels of liver enzymes ALT, AST and GGT in normotensive pre hypertensive and hypertensive individuals. Patients were categorized into three groups – Group 1 Normotensive or Controls (n= 80), Group 2 Pre Hypertensive (n=64) and Group 3 Hypertensive (n=76). Values of ALT, AST and GGT were with in the normal reference range in all the three groups. No significant relation was found between ALT, AST and GGT in normal, pre hypertensive and hypertensive individuals.

Previous studies have reported correlation of protein: creatinine ratio with anxiety and depression. The present research was designed to explore the performance of urinary protein and microalbumin or both as diagnostic aid for stress. Materials and Methods: The present research was an OPD/IPD based case control research where 120 patients, without any other obvious illness, and 106 healthy controls, were assessed for stress (by PSLE) . Urinary protein and creatinine were estimated by Vitros 5.1 fusion analyzer. Statistical package for social sciences version 21.0 (SPSS v 21.0) was used for data analysis. Results : A significant correlation was observed between PCR, ACR and PSLE (p<0.05) Interpretation & Conclusion: The study showed significant correlation between PSLE and urinary protein and microalbuminuria in comparison to controls.

Methods: The study was conducted on 336 subjects attending to OPD & IPD of TB chest & respiratory disease, Medicine and Orthopedics departments of Subharti Medical College and its associated hospital, Meerut, U.P. India. Out of these 155 subjects were tubercular (tubercular pleural effusion 45, peritoneal 34, synovial 34 and cerebrospinal fluid 42) and 181 were non tubercular (pleural 42, peritoneal 48, synovial 37 and cerebrospinal fluid 54). ADA levels of different serosal fluids were estimated by Microexpresskit, based on Guisti&Galantimethod. Data was analyzed by one way Anova. Results: In our study, we found the following cut off values of ADA in different types of serosaleffusions. In tubercular pleural effusion it was 65Unit/Litre (U/L), peritoneal 75U/L, synovial 42U/L and cerebrospinal fluid 13U/L respectively. In non-tubercular pleural effusion it was 6U/L, peritoneal 4U/L, synovial 13U/Land cerebrospinal fluid 2U/L respectively. Sensitivity & specificity of tubercular effusion were 100% and 0% respectively. While for non-tubercular pleural effusion it was 93% & 53%, for peritoneal 90% & 67%, for synovial & CSF it was 0%& 100% respectively. Conclusion: ADA estimation will be helpful as an alternative diagnostic method for early detection of TB and to differentiate between pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis.

Aims & Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of hypothyroidism in Meerut and nearby areas. Material and Methods: This retrospective hospital based study involved 4739 patients having undergone thyroid function assay, in the central clinical biochemistry laboratory of Subharti Medical College and its associated hospital. These patients were evaluated for thyroid hormonal assay-tri iodo thyronine (T3), tetra iodo thyronine (T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) by Mini Vidas auto analyzer using enzyme linked fluorescent assay technique. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS version 17 software. Results: Our study shows high prevalence of abnormal thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism was 8.2% & subclinical hypothyroidism was 8.4%) with female preponderance. Conclusion: The study has defined thyroid function status in thyroid patients of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh (U.P). Higher prevalence of hypothyroidism was observed in patients (especially females) in their second & third decade of life. The findings also supports the usefulness of screening of thyroid function compulsory after age of 30 years, for early detection and treatment to reduce the ill effects of thyroid dysfunctions.
